Crap! There was one in 20CV? I have bought a bunch of Wharnie’s in that steel from KJ… I love it. I heard that the liners tend to rust so not looking forward to that but it still might be my favorite steel (at the moment).Tgmr05 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 9:55 amI really like the dragonfly. I completely missed a recent offering in 20CV with a color that made it look like a ladybug when folded up. DLT had it. They still have the 20cv Endela available.
There is also a damascus vg10 core dragonfly I like at Knifejoy which is still available. They have a 20cv endura, as well.
Dragonfly steels… and other things

Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
I vote for you to get the police k390 SE. You already have both in PE and don’t care for the Endura as much… so you need the Police in SE. I heard that the serrations on the police are like a wonder to behold when compared to serrated edges on other steels in other models. Do it. Get the Police SE.RustyIron wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 10:36 amHey, Caz.
That's a big problem. If you figure out the answer, let me know and I'll go out and buy one, too. I want a K390 Spydie Edge knife and haven't been able to make a decision.
I have both an Endura and a Police 4 in K390 with a plain edge. The Endura is the Goldilocks size--it's nice to carry, it's nice in the hand, it's nice to use. But I almost never carry it. The Police 4 is bigger, and why would I carry a smaller knife when I can carry a bigger one?
Now that I've typed it out, it kind of makes sense for me to get the Police 4 K390 SE.
I don’t have an Endura yet. But I will have one later this week to try. If I like it, I will choose between the Endura in ZDP PE or K390 SE. I think I’ve decided against the Police because 1) I’m limited to 3 inch carry in my city and 4 inch carry in my state so if I got it, it would be a home knife 2) I have a Stretch already and while it’s growing on me, I initially was sure it was too **** big, now I think it feels that way to me due to the FRN handle width. Therefore there’s a high probability that either (or both) the Endura or Police will feel too big. Note: I’m a girl.
I like pointy knives. The police seems to be more pointy than the Endura but the Endura seems more pointy than the Endela or Delica. The only reason I’d go with the police is for the pointy point, the fact that it’s big, and I could name it Excalibur.

Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
I guess since I don't subject it to hard use, no, no chips.
The K390 seems to be more available with the Wharnie blade at the moment:

Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
There was a YT review a while back that showed chips but maybe that was a one off issue. I haven’t owned anything in ZDP yet so don’t know what to expect from it. I have the Wharnie K390… I’m on the waitlist for a regular dragonfly 2 in that steel. Of the easy to acquire current production Dragonfly 2 offerings, K390 is my favorite. If I could find a Dragonfly 2 in Hap40 or 20CV, I’d be on cloud nine.z1r wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 1:11 pmI guess since I don't subject it to hard use, no, no chips.

The VG10 steel is great for this model…I have a HAP40 that was gifted by a fellow forumite (thanks again L!) and I love it for a lot of reasons but my Wharn VG10 is the most utilitarian

Do you know if the Hap40 version is sandwiched with SUS410? I really really liked that steel on a delica.twinboysdad wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 3:25 pmThe VG10 steel is great for this model…I have a HAP40 that was gifted by a fellow forumite (thanks again L!) and I love it for a lot of reasons but my Wharn VG10 is the most utilitarian

Holy cow. You'd think that at my age I would have better self control than to whip out my wallet when a lady tells me to throw down a handful of cash on some shiny trinket. Apparently that's not the case.
But to be honest, I've been talking about getting a Spydie Edge long enough, and I need to either do it or shut up and go home. I was able to find a good deal on the P4 K390 SE, so in a few days I'll find out what all the SE Hoopla is about. Thanks for the encouragement.

That’s right: go big or go home. And it doesn’t get much bigger than the Police.RustyIron wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 5:45 pmHoly cow. Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
So I ended up with an Endura. It fits my hand in that two of my fingers fit / fall where they are supposed to without issue. I don’t find it to be uncomfortable to grip. However, this knife made me discover that I suffer from an incurable devastating debilitating disease called short thumb syndrome… and I struggle with opening this knife. So no Police for me.RustyIron wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 10:36 amHey, Caz.

On the bright side, the Endura made me realize that the Stretch 2 (which I had previously thought was too big due to the width of the FRN) is actually PERFECT for me! Short thumb syndrome doesn’t prevent me from opening the Stretch 2 with one hand and the K390 blade is magnificent.
Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
Have your tried the Stretch XL? See if it works with your thumb, it is sooooo awesome! Due to length restrictions, I don't carry it often but if there wasn't a 3.5" limit, the XL would replace my Endela.
Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
Good on ya! Finding a knife that is just right is better than finding the perfect pair of shoes or a new IPA. My Size 10.5 hands are good with everything from the Police 4 down to a Native 5. I've found that the Middle Finger Spydie Flick is sometimes as good as, or better than, the standard thumb opening. The downside is that the learning curve might leave you with a sore finger or red stains on the floor, so I can't recommend it. But if you decide to go down that road, you'll definitely look cool when you whip out your Endura to cut your sandwich at the coffee shop.
You'll be happy to learn that my Police 4 K390 SE should arrive in the mail today. It's sooner than I expected. Unfortunately, I'm not super-well equipped at sharpening serrated edges, so I just ordered up a Standard Sharpmaker. It's more than I wanted to throw down for an "experiment," but I suppose it had to be done. Sal might need a bigger wheelbarrow to carry the load to the bank this month.
Re: Dragonfly steels… and other things
Nice. If you figure out how to sharpen the serrated edges, please make a post. I ordered an Endura SE after my KJ Endura arrived but I’m crap at serrated edge sharpening. I gave up on my sharpmaker (probably gonna sell it) and do better with the Lansky. I recently bought the teardrop rod hoping that would help me on the SE.RustyIron wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 2:34 pmGood on ya!
