Would you buy Spyderco branded torx hand tools?
I know the folks at Spyderco have a lot going on right now, but I also know there are scores of customers who are very loyal to their company.
Would you buy a set of torx tools put out by Spyderco? Maybe they could partner with Wiha or another reputable maker if they didn’t want to build their own. A nice set that covers all the sizes required to disassemble and reassemble our favourite brand of pocket knives.
I know I pondered over which hand tools to buy for way too long before deciding. Spyderco is a name people trust, and if they had their own line out, I would have taken a lot less time to choose.
Just something I’ve been thinking about…

If I didn’t already own quality Wiha torx drivers I’d certainly consider a set from Spyderco.
As it goes, I wouldn’t buy Spyderco drivers as I’d simply be doubling up for no good reason.

I’d buy them.
Re: Would you buy Spyderco branded torx hand tools?
I already have a nice set of Wiha bits too. As much as I like the Spyderco brand I don't think I need another set of torx bits just because they have the Spyderco logo on them
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: Would you buy Spyderco branded torx hand tools?
It depends on the layout. I'm kinda picky about how the tools are packaged I guess you'd say. One reason I like my little Kobalt set is because all the bits are double ended and carry inside the handle, it makes for a very compact and convenient kit and I keep one in my sling bag. By comparison I have a couple other kits, one uses "bit strips" that hold all the bits in place and I hate fumbling around with pulling them out of the strips, and other kits use a plastic clamshell style tray which I guess I like more than the strips but it's a lot less portable. All that plus the Kobalt I use is less than $10, so I would be interested but it would really come down to price and design. I'd probably be more interested just for the collectability of it.

I use the little Boker torx driver set that also fits inside the handle. Its great! If spyderco would have one i would maybe buy it depends on the price and if i buy it, it would not so much be because i need it but just to support them.

I have all the bit kits I’ll ever need, but what I struggle to find is “refills”, i.e. packs of one ore more single size bits in sizes under T10.
Whoever would partner with a reputable maker (Wiha, Wera etc) to make such bits more available, I would support.

You can buy separate bits in whatever quantity you want direct from wihas website. Thats what I have done.aicolainen wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 6:15 amI have all the bit kits I’ll ever need, but what I struggle to find is “refills”, i.e. packs of one ore more single size bits in sizes under T10.

Regarding the op, I would not buy spyderco branded bits because as others have already stated, I’ve got all of my driver needs taken care of by other high quality manufacturers. I highly doubt spyderco would even care to venture into that market as they see it is well taken care of already.

This seems to be way easier for US residents than people living elsewhere. In my specific case, living in the outskirts of nowhere doesn’t exactly help either :)

I've already got two sets of Benchmade's tool kits that I bought at knife shows over the years. But if Spyderco did come out with a superb quality set I would be highly tempted to buy them.
One thing is for sure>> if it has Spyderco's name on it you can be assured of great quality merchandise.

Just to have Spyderco’s name on the Torx set without it having added material value to the product? No, I’m not a fanboy to that degree. My WiHas do me just fine.
Now if Sal or Eric did their magic on a Torx set, I might consider it, but the product would have to be akin to what the Sharpmaker has been to knife-sharpening. I’m not sure what magic that could be.

Pretty much the same here, except my "go to" Torx set for working on knives is Home Depot's Husky which cost about $6 when I got it back in '04.

I'm all full up on stuff like that now but I would be extremely interested in some Spyderco brand snow tires.

Yeah actually I got those mixed up, mine are Husky too. I do have a Kobalt but I don't like it as much as the Husky.

I like my wihas better than my huskys.
But would I buy some Spyderco branded torx? Knowing that they would be top quality, and supporting my favorite knife Co. , yes I would buy a set.

Spyderco the torx wrench
Re: Would you buy Spyderco branded torx hand tools?
Only if they're machined from exotic high carbide powder steel and heat treated to 70+ HRC. I want them to shred through inferior screws and bolts like a spork through warm butter.
In reality, probably not. There are tons of bits available. Some of them decent, most for pretty cheap. I can't see Spyderco making inroads when the market is pretty well served.
Plus it seems like every other week an old school reuptable tool company goes to pot and sells out. If Spyderco put their name on something that they can't easily control it could reflect poorly. Look at how Snap on lent their name to crap knives for a bit. Now they're at least with CRKT and Gerber, but for a while there were authentic $5 Snap On gas station knives floating around diluting the brand.
