None of the knives I'm interested in are available anywhere. I've been looking for a Native Salt for months I sign up for in stock alerts on models I like but by the time I get the email and click the link they are sold out again. I guess I will be waiting for the magnacut Native now.

How about the Swick? Might arrive sooner than the ManaCut Native 5.

I think the blade is too small. I'll probably just have to suffer and buy a Pacific Salt 2 to hold me over. Red Snapper season is only about 6 weeks out now. Pacific Salt 2, H1 or LC200N? I'm leaning toward the H1.
I saw a forum poll where LC200N was preferred. Maybe I "need" one of each :thinking

I, too am suffering with an LC200N serrated PacSalt 2. :winking-tongue If you're looking for an inexpensive solution during the interim until a suitable fixie becomes available, you might want to look at the Byrd Wharnies for $33-$35.00. I have both the Cara Cara 2 and Harrier 2 serrated Wharnies. No lock rock whatsoever. Not the level of corrosion resistance or toughness as H1, but in all other aspects I actually prefer it. They seem to be The Rodney Dangerfield in the Spyderco orbit.

If you're considering a folder, maybe you should consider the Siren. The Pacific Salt is great, though, and used ones are very often available, if it's just to hold you over until you can find a fixie.

The byrd line is a great suggestion, though!

You could do worse than a Police 4 VG-10, too.

With the C-60 Ayoob model due to be released any time now I would urge the OP to take a serious look at that model in SE or PE>> because it shouldn't be too much longer before it is available. I distinctly remember a former forum member who used to live in Upstate New York who stated on more than one occasion that his C-60 Ayoob model was his favorite knife to fillet fish with.

He also stated on more than one occasion that he used his C-60 Ayoob for all kinds of outdoor cutting jobs. It's threads like this that also make me want to see the return of the fully serrated Catcherman model. Or just any of the past Catcherman models would be great for all types of fishing or any other outdoor activities as well.

Full disclosure, I’m a terrible fisher and I’m not able to fish as much as I would like to, but it’s one of those activities that I come to appreciate more over the last few years and I really enjoy it.

Of all the Salt knives I have, I tend to pick the Native 5 or the Siren for salt water fishing.
I couldn’t really tell you why, it’s a subconscious preference thing.
Between the two though, clothing is a factor. While I really like coarse G-10, there are some clothes where it can stick too much to the fabric, making it hard to get in and out of pocket.

I’m also lucky enough to have the Waterway, and while it’s usually in or on my backpack, I prefer the folders for most tasks involving fish or tackle.

I may just be a bit paranoid when it comes to rust, so while quite a few other high stainless fixed blades would be up to the task, I would be less comfortable with a non-Salt folder and I would shy away from folders with liners entirely.
So basically, if I needed an intermediate knife, I would get whatever available Salt I liked the most. They’re some of the most versatile knives in existence, so you should have no issue repurposing it once you get your hands on your “chosen one”.

Lastly, in case Sal keeps his eye on the discussion, I’ll get behind JD Spydo and support another run of the Catcherman, even though it’s a bit off topic :)

I'm looking for a new plain edged, fixed blade, salt water fishing knife but don't care for the looks of the black blade on the current Aqua Salt. Will the yellow handled, uncoated blade Aqua Salt ever return? What about an Aqua Salt with a LC200N uncoated blade? The Waterway may be an option, are there any other suggestions?
Hello, have you considered the Fish Hunter? It is also made of H1.

I don't want a serrated edge, wish it was available in plain edge.

I agree with you about the uncoated blade. I try to avoid anything that makes my outdoors knives less visible. For me, it's the Waterway. It's my favorite Spyderco knife. I wish it came with a yellow handle, for the same reason I prefer uncoated blades. I also wish for an SE version, so I could have both!

I really enjoy my Waterway as it is, but yes, a yellow handle and SE would make it even better!
Hey Wartstein, I too would like a serrated version. As far as handle colors, I’d love to see some higher visibility/more colorful options but I’m not sure yellow is in the cards. Yellow G10 tends to come out pretty pale. I think orange might work better. What I’d really like to see is an option for an FRN handled Waterway. That would open up ALL the colors and significantly lower the price of the knife.

Agreed on all points - SE, color (orange would be even better than yellow) and handle material.
Though I have to say: Just from the feel in hand the Waterway is pretty "frn-ish" already (but does not make color options as easy as "real" FRN)
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)
