If you're talking Carribean with CBBL instead of comp.lock: Now that would be amazing!!

But I think a CBBL would not fit into the Caribbean together with its choil-less blade and same would be true for a choil-less Manix. Not enough space for both. Just a guess.
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):

- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

i love the manix and the caribbean both. obviously they are very different, but the leaf caribbean would at least give you a neutral handle with the right blade shape/length.

I've thought about this many many times. If you take the last finger groove point on the handle and move it forward to the end of the handle and bring the edge all the way back to the handle I think it would be awesome.

For some reason I think of a Mule as kind of a choil-less Manix.

as soon as i got one in hand finally, i had the same thought. it's basically a fixed blade version of my favorite folder.

the resilience and tenacious are similar as well.

doesn't the cbbl necessitate the choil?

I'm pretty sure it could be designed around with an internal stop pin like the Chap if the choil is normally what prevents the edge from contacting the handle.

I'm not normally super hung up on edge to handle ratios but the Manix series is pretty inefficient in this respect. My mock-up was based on tracing around a Manix XL rather than free handing it, so that's how much cutting edge such a design would offer.

not my picture, but it shows the lock mechanism well in the closed position...

it looks like the choil cutout helps with clearance for the cbbl at least a little.

The ball seats into a notch on the tang. I don't see why that notch couldn't be hidden under the handle when opened like it currently is with the choil.

yeah. it just looks like the blade would hit the spring if it went back farther.

Looking at my Manix XL it appears the ball itself could serve as the "kick" for the cbbl.

They'd definitely have to do some tinkering to make sure the blade doesn't hit the edge though, good observation lb93.

This is exactly what I meant in my first post here.
It seems like a choil-less blade could collide / not fit into the handle together with the CBBL - at least if the latter sits in the handle the way it does in the Manix now.

What´s "funny":

While I am normally much for long cutting edges and actually don´t need a choil necessarily, cause choking up on the edge works well too - when it comes to the Manix 2 LW, I really like the choil. This is because the Manix is a small folder in my "system"/"categorization" anyway and I carry it as such: As a more specialized, small folder (=too small / too short edge for a general EDC knife), but with superior ergos and just a dream to carry . Rather short package, and the combo of light and a bit wider makes it sit very "stable"/"unfloppy" in pocket. And its shape allows for passing the hand by the knife in pocket easily,

Now would I like to see an additional variant of the Manix with no choil and a longer cutting edge? Sure, if technically possible with the CBBL!
And as said: A Caribbean with a CBBL instead of a comp.lock would be an instant buy for me! As would be a CBBL Shaman, and here a CBBL should fit into the handle together with the ("choiled") blade.
As many have asked already: I don´t know what the reasons are for Spyderco not utilizing the CBBL more often (I am sure there are valid ones!), at least in folders where it would certainly fit in (so folders with choils in the blade).
