Found an "Old Friend"

:D Hello All :D

What a great day! I persuaded myself, with a little help from my good lady, to tidy out the garage. Whilst sorting out some of my fishing tackle I noticed something knocking against the section of rod in its holdall. When I tipped the holdall upside down an old knife I had lost years ago fell to the floor!

It was in a terrible condition as I must have put it away without properly cleaning it. An hour later after a good cleaning and sharpening on the Sharpmaker it was back to a fair condition. Though it is not a Spydie I am very happy to have it back. It has taken some serious hammer over the years and has been all over the world with me.

It was made in Norway by Helle Fabrikker and is like a razor because of its high carbon edge.

Nice piece Ken. Do you know more about the model? The blade looks a laminated one to me. Fittings are nickelsilver, I'm not sure of the wood. Could be Ebony. An interesting variation compared to other Scandinavian knives. Enjoy.

I bought the knife second hand at a arms fair about twelve years ago. I don't know what model it is but the blade is certainly laminated. The fittings are nickel silver but I don't think thet the wood is ebony it is lighter than the photos indicate. It was the unusual handle shape that first attracted me to the knife, it provides an excellent grip it simply refuses to twist in the hand :cool:

I have looked on the Helle Fabrikken site and have found nothing resembling this knife.

Friend........ YES! Lost........ NEVER! I have tried to put recent events to the back of my mind and concentrate on my family and jobs I need to do around the home. I'll have to get the garage sorted properly.....never know what other goodies I might find! :D

Going to have a quick read of Harry Potter now.

Great story Ken. There's nothing like the feeling of finding a knife that's been missing so long that you've forgotten about it. I had that happen a month or so ago with a knife I had completely forgotten about. Found it during a big clean up effort as well.

The handle is Brazilian Rosewood :)

That is a very cool looking fixed blade Ken. I love how the handle is diamond shaped. It's funny how little things like that can make our days better.
