What steels do you have the most of?
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
The majority of my collection is traditional folders. I think 1095, with an unofficial count, is most common.
If we're talking Spyderco, it's VG-10.

Re: What steels do you have the most of?
If you added up all my H1 Spydercos, it'd be equal or greather than the number I have in all the other steels I own.
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
Vivi are any of your H1's SE ? If so did any of the serrations ever break off or dull real bad during use?
I vaguely remember a video of Eric doing interview i wish i could find again but i think he said there was a problem with H1 serrations breaking off or maybe LC200N? I cant remember. Also do you have any LC200N knives? Which is better? What are the advantages , disadvantages of each?
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
I have both SE and PE H1 knives. I'm a big fan of both edge types in this steel.JAS777 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 7:52 pmVivi are any of your H1's SE ? If so did any of the serrations ever break off or dull real bad during use?

I have never had any issues with the edge of my serrated H1 knives. They stand up to uses I didn't expect them to.
I have LC200N in PE and SE. I'm a big fan of it as well.
Advantages of LC200N are that it is available in full flat grind, and the edge holding is supposed to be a step above H1.
I have not really noticed an edge holding difference between the two if I'm being honest. LC200N feels harder when I sharpen it though, and getting that razor level of sharpness is a bit more finicky than with H1.
I run my knives with coarser edges than most, typically sharpening in the 200-300 grit range. Bringing them to a high polish and comparing may bring out different results.
On paper, LC should have better edge holding and H1 superior toughness. In real life use I don't see a big difference between them except that H1 sharpens more easily.
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
Thank you if you could only buy 1 & you were terrible at sharpening what would be the best knife to pick between H1 n LC200N & PE vs SE?
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
i know you're not asking me, but i'd go with pe lc200n from those choices. it holds an edge longer than h1 in pe and is still easy to sharpen. my favorite from those choices would be se h1 though.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Re: What steels do you have the most of?
Ok since both of you prefer SE h1 im gonna get that on pacific. I like that blade shape beter than atlantic. Thank yous both!
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
I'd cast my vote the same way, too.
If I could only have one of those it would be SE H1.

Re: What steels do you have the most of?
H1 is definitely the easiest to sharpen between the two.
Both SE and PE H1 Pacifics make great all purpose knives.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=84544 - Thread on sharpening serrated knives. Takes all the mystery out of the process if you don't already know.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=90089 - Thread on maximizing PE H1 performance by utilizing very coarse edges. I'd recommend this edge type with plain edged H1 or LC to increase edge retention.
Personally I carry PE H1 Pacifics more than SE these days, but I keep both a serrated Pacific Salt 1, and a serrated Pacific 2 in my EDC rotation. Can't go wrong with either.
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
For Spyderco knives - S30V and VG10 by a runaway margin. My interests tend toward seeking out new models vs. new steels, so this tracks. Honorable mentions go to M4, 20CV analogs, LC200N.
For Non-Spyderco knives - 20CV, S35VN, 154CM, S30V, AUS8/10.
For Non-Spyderco knives - 20CV, S35VN, 154CM, S30V, AUS8/10.

Of the steel I have more than two. I have too many 2x ones.
8x M4
5x Cruwear
3x K390
3x HAP40
Definitely looking to up my K390 game.

Re: What steels do you have the most of?
Good choice!!
Though with a sharpmaker LC 200 N in SE is very easy to sharpen too. Even quicker and easier than PE anyways for me.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
.... Most of?
Certainly VG10.
And perfectly happy that is is like that (does not mean though that I would not enjoy other steels I have too- especially REX 45 and HAP40 are great).

Re: What steels do you have the most of?
VG10 used to make up over half my collection. These days I've got 6 VG10 knives. I've always liked it and feel like it's gotten under rated over the years. It takes an extremely good edge and works well in both PE and SE.
Re: What steels do you have the most of?
1. (4) VG-10
2. (3) CRUWEAR (includes Z-Wear)
3. (2) REX45 & s30v
4. (1) M4, 52100, AEB-L, Elmax, K390, AUS8, H1, HAP40, BD1, N690Co
I’m including knives I’ve given my wife and kids. Tomorrow the VG-10 count will drop to 3. I gave away a Delica yesterday, and I’m planning on giving away another tomorrow.
OH, this list is only Spyderco!
Hmmm
A2, 12C27, 14C28N, 154CM, M2, D2, ATS34, and a whole lot of unknown SS and carbon steel.

Top 5, counting folders only.
S30V - 18
S35VN - 16
M390 - 12
20CV - 11
CTS-XHP - 10
If I include fixed blades, then 1095 and 5160 would probably bump the bottom two steels off the list.
