Please stop making people like me cry. For really real…. It’s not cool.

I've been struggling with this too. I have way (way) too many knives, and while I can afford the ones that I have, it does seem wasteful to have so much "fun" money tied up in knives, especially many that are similar. Conversely, I do get much joy out of owning and using them all, and yet I am fully aware that I will never be wearing out any specific one. I am well beyond any meaningful definition of 'need'.Airlsee wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 2:17 pmSeriously, how many knives does a knife knut need?
I know that I have WAY too many knives to ever really use, and could qualify as an unhinged knife weirdo even after moving on 60% of my accumulation...
I know this has been brought up several times, as how many knives do you really need etc. and some people have gotten down to just a handful of knives, but I'm not looking to do that...I just want to free up some of the money that never sees the light of day but when I start to separate them out, it is WAY harder than one would think.
Am I the only one who finds it exponentially easier to accumulate these things than it is to decide which ones should go? The crux of the issue perhaps...
Haha, maybe I just needed to type this out...any personal experience or insight is welcome though!
Thanks all!
Hey Mr. Janich there is another great source of information on knife laws throughout the USA and Canada. That is the AKTI which is the "American Knife & Tool Institue". I had been a member for years and I need to renew my membership ASAP. But I've even gone to their meetings at the BLADE show and they are a great bunch of people and they know the score on knife laws throughout the USA and for Canada to some degree.Michael Janich wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 6:47 amFor a great, now free, reference to knife laws, I highly recommend the Legal Blade Smartphone app. It used to be a paid app that benefited KnifeRights.org. Then Blade HQ sponsored its update and made it free. It covers all categories of knives and addresses state preemption (where the state law takes priority) and situations where municipal laws are stricter than state laws--like Boston.
Very handy and easier to navigate than Google searches, which may turn up outdated information or inaccurate guidance from Internet wizards.
Stay safe,
Mike
Jim I'll keep you informed as I get info on the upcoming C-60 Ayoob Sprint Run. I've been watching this one very closely for obvious reasons. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get either a PE version or at least one SE version if you're ready to order within a two week time period of it's release.James Y wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 9:10 amTBH, if the people who buy up the sprints and resell them at inflated prices actually cared about other knife enthusiasts, they wouldn’t be doing it in the first place. But they don’t care. They CAN’T care; it’s not in their nature.
Thankfully, I’m not one who is into sprint runs or custom Spyderco knives. Even the upcoming Ayoob sprint (the only sprint run I’ve ever been interested in); if I end up missing out on it, it won’t really bother me at all. So I give no power at all to the “flippers.”

I usually just tap my fingertips along the edge and see if it sticks. If it feels sticky sharp I take it to some arm hairs and see if it pops hairs without touching my skin. If it does that, we're good to go!
Same method, not the safest but over the years i found out that it is a pretty good indicator when you do that for the entire length of the edge.Pickmansmodel82 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:46 amVERY VERY lightly draw across the calloused part of my thumb, to feel how it “bites”.
Care is to be taken, for in the words of the wife “Let me get a towel. At least you’re getting better at sharpening, right?”
Airlsee wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 7:50 pmSimilarly, I prefer to use receipt paper these days. I used to use phonebook paper a lot, but now phonebooks aren't easy to find and I've grown to prefer the really thin receipt paper that you get from most stores these days. I convinced an employee at Staples to give me a blank roll of their receipt paper after finding out they only sold the thicker stuff. It will last a lifetime because I usually just use whatever receipts would normally go straight in the bin.
The feedback you get is fantastic.
