... a bit torn...

I´d LOVE the looks of this model: Micarta is great anyway, and two different scale materials look very cool imho.

Practically speaking though the Millie would sacrifice a bit of what I do like on this model: Very light for its size.
And the TI side of the scale would be a bit slick and also cold in winter time...

If liner- or frame lock does not really matter to me functionally speaking. Perhaps I still slightly prefer the former
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

I am saying maybe, but the main reason is that I have not handled a Military yet. Materials sound good, frame lock or liner lock - pretty much the same thing.

I would be down with everything you mentioned except the RIL. Please keep it a liner lock for me.

I am one of the weirdos, I guess.

I would buy a frame lock Millie in a heart beat.
Yet, if it were a liner lock, I wouldn't even consider it.

Been waiting since the K390 mule for a k390 military. The police 4 kinda filled that role but I'd still snag a K390 millie.

I only voted "No" because the Military isn't big enough.

I will buy any new sprint/exclusive version of the Military that’s offered as long as it doesn’t have a compression lock.

There can't be a Millie with a comp.lock.
Such a knife would be a PM2 XL... :winking-tongue ;)

Yes! Especially the steel and color. And at this point, RIL would be my preference over liner lock. If there were three options, the order would be RIL, compression lock, liner lock.

Although the liner lock Militaries get used more, the one RIL I have is the favorite. With another RIL version, I wouldn't hold back as much.

I appreciate the lighter liner lock for some applications, but for how/when I use this knife most, the difference makes no difference.

I pulled out both RIL and LL yesterday while watching a movie. Spent better part of an hour handling them side by side, right/left handed, cut up some fruit, went to the garage to bear down on some oak, touched them up a bit on a tri stone. And aside from getting weird looks from the mrs, if I had to choose only one, it would be RIL. The feel, engagement, and detent of that lock wins me over.

I'd be all over this, wouldn't even hesitate...unless over $400, then I would think for a few minutes.

What is it about frame lock vs liner lock that makes people feel so strongly of one over the other? It is the same **** thing, just liner locks tend to be a little thinner.

Cheese and melted cheese is the same thing, but I prefer one over the other depending on what type of meal it is.
Same with locks. I don’t think I have an innate bias, but depending on use/activity I often prefer a specific type.

For the Military specifically, I would want a liner lock simply because it’s the OG. No specific tasks in mind for it, just a classic Spyderco design that might be a nice addition to the collection. One to admire and play around with, and see what all the fuss is about.

A short article from Tony Sculimbrene that might add a touch of humor to the topic:

The Military is quite likely too big for me to see any regular use, so if I ever decide to get one, it will definitively be only one.
And that one needs to have the signature linerlock of the Military. There's no way around that.
As for the rest..
Micarta is always good.
K390 I have no experience with, but so many forumites can't be wrong. I say it's good.
I also thought the military was too big for regular use, but when I got mine it immediately took over the pocket. The light weight and slim profile really make it very very pocket friendly. Highly recommended!
I probably wouldn’t want to buy at all it if I didn’t think there was just the tiniest possibility to find some kind of use case for it that didn’t feel totally ridiculous. A little forced maybe, but that’s OK :smlling-eyes

I highly doubt it will achieve a slot in my regular rotation anytime soon, but who knows - given enough time anything is possible ;)

A few minutes is enough for these things to go OOS!

I just never cared for liner locks as a design. I tolerate frame locks, because I like the heft of titanium and there are a few designs that I really enjoy, that employ that lock.

The Ti Millie is one knife that I wish I had kept.

Also, they usually have a good bit more lock bar tension, which aids me in closing them.
(I close FLs by stopping the blade against the detent ball and then pushing it past the break over point, where it will snap closed.)

Nope.

You had my interest right up to the frame lock (I refuse to call it the other thing 🙄).

K390 or MagnaCut and green micarta with the liner lock? Oh yeah.

Indeed, after about a decade of waiting for a 5" FFG folder and seeing nothing I generally gave up collecting Spyderco.

The Police 4 in Full SE is one of the first knives in a long time that mostly checks all the boxes for me, I wish it were longer but it will have to do.

It's more than one being thinner. The frame lock provides no advantages and several disadvantages.

From a functional standpoint you have a knife with one scale that gives decent traction when you grip it, and on the other side you have a big slab of smooth, slippery metal.

From an aesthetic standpoint the framelock looks like a half-finished knife. It looks like the knife maker just couldn't be bothered to put a scale on both sides.

^^and you pay for that slippery slab of metal too, perhaps a royalty also for the frame lock?
