Shabaria!

#1

Post by john row »

I just received my Shabaria in a trade today. I LIKE it! It works great in the alternate opening of finger & thumb in the hole and flicking it open into your palm (as opposed to sticking it into your palm as I've been known to do!! LOL). And it's SO UNUSUAL - sort of like Cyndi Lauper!!!

Eduard had a number of unique designs. He also designed the SpyderCard.

What function was the Shabaria designed to fulfill? It looks like such an unusual piece, it doesn't come across as a general utility knife. Does it have a specialised role?

Just a heads up here...I looked at one while on vacation in Tenn, at SMKW and the liner went straight to the far side...It went to the other side so fast it even made a what would have been a nice "clack" sound.
Im sure this one just slipped through, but still something to watch for.

My Shabaria seems very solid and I haven't had any problems.

Ken -
The Shabaria is built primarily for one purpose - slashing. If you haven't found the "Shabaria Grip" yet, choke back on the handle and put the pommel in your palm. Gives an extra 1.5 - 2 inches of slashing reach, and lets the knife really whip.

I received my Shabaria 2 days ago and I can't put it down. It makes a really nice envelope opener. I love the shape of it also. Very neat knife.

One customer picked the serrated Shabaria for being a "full-size" folder with a grip suitable for her smallish hands, and for having a blade suitable for collecting plant samples during a month or so on a research project on an island biology reserve off the coast of Maine.

I suppose you could slash with it too.

Also makes an impression as a steak knife in a restaurant! Just don't leave it on your plate at the end of the meal.

I think the purpose of the Shabaria was to make
all other folders look boring and ordinary.
