This poll has been going for two days now, and I think that most of the people who have opinions on the subject have weighed in. during these past two days I have been occasionally checking the results, and those results have been consistent from the start. Approximately twice as many people seem to favor a polished edge over a “toothy” edge. From reading everyone’s comments, my view is that many of them took this viewpoint from their experiences on the difference between a SE blade, and a PE blade. I would have thought that to be the case without reading comments as a “toothy“ edge is really just “micro-serrations“. I would personally think that the difference in effect between a polished or toothy edge, would be similar the those of a plain or serrated edge, just on a different scale.

Thanks to all who contributed. I enjoy reading opinions and experiences from people who draw from not only their training, but also the “real world”. If any wish to further comment, I am always interested in hearing. It would even be interested to hear of tests comparing the two. Who knows? Maybe Dr. Snubnose may sometime decide to “meat test” two Natives (for example), one each PE and SE.

Edited to add:

P.S.
224477,
I'll PM you later.

Ghostrider:I tested the SE Native Model and was not impressed with the results on the meat...I don't own a PE but would like to test one...for now I wouldn't use the SE Native for SD but I do like the way it handles and functions for everyday chores...Doc

I remember that test Doc. IIRC, the Native's performance was poor compared to the other knives you tested. That was a cool thread.

It was just a hypotetical idea to test a same model knife with two different blade types.

If you really want to test a PE, I own both the Native, and Native III. The Native III has a slightly rounded tip (not very bad,IMO), but the Native is NIB. I'd be willing to loan them (or just one if you prefer) to you if you'd like, provided you send them/it back when done witht the test.

Ghostrider: Thanks for the offer of sending out your knife for testing, I have a buddy who has the Native III PE and will be seeing him in the next two weeks...I'll ask him to borrow it for the day, don't think he'll say no...I wouldn't want anything to happen to your knife in Transit...but do appreciate the offer...I too think it will be interesting to test them side by side...Consider it done and as soon as can get my hands on the PE I'll test it and the SE again then I'll post the results...Doc ;)
