I always see so many different Spyderco models advertising their 4-position pocket clip option but I never see anyone taking advantage of it.
I decided I'm going to try carrying a PM2 with their 4-position pocket clip system because I like having different options.
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)
There must indeed be some useful things that could be attached to the unused clip screw holes.
My favorite Spyderco design features are the clip and the opening hole. The opening hole is to me the most practical one-hand-opening design ever created in a manual opening knife, the least prone to failure - especially under stress.
I'd like something that uses the clip holes to facilitate drawing the knife, especially under stress. Something that added a little outward curve or flair to one or both scales, like some pommels do on fixed blades, to provide slip resistance when pulling the knife from a pocket. I've been intending to ruin some small pieces of sheet metal to try to make something shaped like a miniature wall mounted bottle opener, but coming across this thread, I thought I'd go ahead and mention it.
This is for people who really can't make up their minds, like myself. Some of my knives are tip-up, RH (those I can't open/unlock with my left hand), others tip-up LH (those I can open left-handed). I am left-handed.
Schrade, back when they were still an American company did make an interesting concept; called the SW-1 "Switch It". What was interesting was that the clip wasn't screwed on, but instead rotated. It could be rotated to be LH or RH carry, or in the center (covering the back lock) in use. I carried it a short amount of time, but due to the fact that only one screw held it on, and that the clip was FRN, retired it.
I'll see if I can dig it out tomorrow. Should be in the Schrade roll.

I posted this on instagram as well and someone else had a similar idea to use the unused clip screw holes. The idea they proposed was an "attachable palm swell." A thin contoured cover that attaches via the clip holes.
It's an idea that may seem a bit farfetched at first but can quickly develop into something really cool or innovative.
You're a genius! Now you can stick that PM2 to four different pockets at the same time, right? :D

LOL! Hadn't even considered that but I'm not against it. :D
Admittedly though, the stock clips don't actually fit as shown in this picture. I may or may not have needed a Torx "T-Photoshop" to fit all three screws in two of the clips.
