Different styles of beer, wine, and bourbon are best if served in an appropriate glass, so it stands to reason that there would be similar effects with coffee.

Most orange-red ceramics from the first half of the 20th century were colored with uranium oxide and were quite radioactive. I'm not saying it did or did not pose a health hazard, but you could pour your coffee first thing in the morning and it would still be hot at quitting time.
