Actually, I intended to post this in the Off-Topic area, but goofed!
It is very relaxing to draw. Often, I smuggle a small drawing tablet into the prison and draw away while on post during down time. Count time is a perfect time to draw, since the cretins are locked up then. I drew the sabertooth pic while standing post, in fact. It makes the day go much faster, that's for certain.
Hopefully, it will eventually make a second career for me, and I won't have to endure the **** of the prison. But we'll see...
As it is, I've had some interesting customers from around the U.S., and around the world. Some of my work hangs in the Strider Shop, and a couple have been displayed in the Philadelphia Art Museum Village of the Arts and Humanities, as well as the Thomas Eakins House in Germantown, PA.
I truly love to see people's reactions to my work, and it brings me a feeling that I can't describe when they are excited about my work. A few of my coworkers even tattooed a couple of my drawings into their flesh, which seems to be the ultimate compliment ( you know they REALLY like it, and are not just being polite when they do that).

I'm making some prints of a P-51 Mustang drawing that I did a while back (it's not that great, but...). Tomorrow, I'm taking it to the WWII Weekend in Reading, PA.
I'm friends with a man who was a Tuskeegee Airman in WWII. I'm going to give prints to all the Tuskeegee guys who'll be there (at least a half dozen), and will ask them to autograph a few for me to take home.
The airman that I know (His name is Bert Levy) has a son in the prison where I work, and I see him every day. Bert came in two years in a row as a guest at the Veteran's Day celebration inside the prison. I looked him up at the airshow a few years ago. The Tuskeegee guys are as nice as you'll ever find, every one of them. A great bunch. I spent at least a half hour there, talking with them like old friends.
Bert told me he's a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Tuskeegee Airmen. I asked how I could get in touch with them, and he gave me his business card, and I gave him one of mine, which drew some interesting looks from the crowd (like, how the **** does this guy know these famous guys?!). :)
Anyhow, if I can, I'll post pics here of the autographed drawing when I get it home.

Beautiful work, Sir!
Jim,
You've got quite a talent there! I recognize the first piece you posted from your avatar over at Badlands. Keep up the great work!

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!
Thank you, sir. Yes, that's my avatar at the Badlands. I don't often toot my own horn, but that drawing came out really nice, and I think it's cool. I like its wicked, primeval look.Sundown wrote:Jim,

Yes, this is a major "out" for me. In fact, I even do it while standing at work on occasion. I'd literally go nuts if it weren't for my artwork.DAYWALKER wrote:Awesome artwork JimD!!!

On a lighter note, I just got back from the airshow. Later on, I'll post some scans of the P-51 I drew, and the Tuskeegee Airmen signed. Got five or six signatures on most of the drawings. I also gave each one of them a print as a gift, and my way of saying 'thanks'.
Now, it seems I have several of these hand-signed prints in my possession, all with authentic autographs. Hmmmmm.... I'll keep a couple for myself and the kids. That leaves...oh, about half a dozen that will go up on the market. Anyone? Anyone? Beuhler? Beuhler?

Right on bro! God willing, your art will REALLY be an "OUT" for ya if ya know what I mean!
I doodle my knife designs on "downtime" at work...but I could never do the kind of art you do at work! Again, keep up the "freehand" bro!
God bless and 360IJN always

Chad, if you had a bit of instruction, you could also draw as well as I do.
As for the autographed Tuskeegee Airman Prints...I was thinking $25 each would be fairly reasonable. They're 4 x 6 inch size, and each have four or five autographs.

Aloha JimD!
Yes...some instruction would be good :o Here is a Samurai I drew about 4 years ago. This Samurai is off of one of the many books entitled, "Go Rin No Sho"...I inked this one in, and then had to make copies of it as my grandmother wanted me to color one for her to place in her home...My mother has one in green, and I have one in blue framed in my room...Don't laugh TOO hard Jim! :o
God bless
PS: This was my first attempt at "Period Art"...man, it wasn't easy!!!

I might just have to either scan or take pics of some of my stuff now. Dunno if my tiger is still up on the isp space...

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.

Thanks, guys.
Chad! That's a nice drawing of a Samurai!! Bro', you've got it in you; if you can do that, you can draw almost anything you want.
Know what my toughest subjects are? People and animals! Very, very difficult for me to get the proportions correct on them. As such, I've avoided drawing much of those two subjects, instead sticking to mostly landscapes, buildings, and such. I'm dabbling in fantasy art right now, things like dragons (I'm going to hit some of the local tattoo shops when I have enough pieces to see if they'd like to buy some for thier inventory).
Chad...as long as you have a hand with five fingers (****, four would probably work, as well), you can draw, and draw well. The only thing limiting you is YOU.
People convince themselves that they can't draw, and so they can't. But teach them to draw just one thing, and have it turn out to look somewhat like what they set out to draw, and they gain confidence. And then they're off and running. That's what happened with me.

Here's a pic of the P-51 with the Tuskeegee Airmen autographs on it (the drawing is a print, but the autographs are all authentic and original). I've also endorsed it. Only $25...
I have several, so let me know. After the crappy day I've had, selling a couple of these would make it a bit brighter. And you'll own a piece of history!
