Salsa Question?

Just a question about the Salsa.

All of the Salsa's I've handled, seem to close almost all the way, and then like the last 1/4" you kind of have to push down. Is this basically due to the ball detent on the compression lock?

Are all compression locks like this?

They also seems to want to open very easily that first 1/4" or so.

Just wondered, 'cause I don't know :D
