Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
The Sage 5 Lightweight seems like a model that doesn’t get the love it deserves. I love the blade, the ergonomics, the action. Is there any talk of doing sprint runs of this model? Different steels or different colors? I need a new monkey for my back!

Perhaps i am not alone in silently wishing for the Sage series to move forward, to the Sage 6 instead of sideways and backwards :)

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
I have considered transferring my allegiance from the Caly3 to the Sage (since it is available), but just can't quite leave the Caly3 behind. I own 2 Sages but the Calys kick them out of the pocket every time. Sal recently mentioned a LW screw-construction version of the Caly so I have to check that out...!
The Sage is a little bulkier/chunkier than I prefer, and doesn't completely hide in the pocket. I realize folks with big hands like a bigger handle, but I'm primarily looking for a trim, concealable folder with a decent amount of blade.

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
I believe Sal mentioned last year that Sage 5 LWs sprints might be in the works. It should be in the Casual Bombshells thread.

Hi FRNFanboy,
There is a Caly 3.5 LT WT in-the-works. We're modifying to accept screw construction.
I'm currently playing with a Sage 5 LT WT REX-121 proto.

I don’t think I’d ever calm down if Spyderco made that Rex121 Sage... :D

Rex 121 has got me frothing!
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
I would collect the Sage 5 & Sage 5 LW in all the different flavors we've seen done with the other Spyderco models. Good thing for me they don't do this.

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
The Sage 5 LW is the "better Para 3" for me
Does everything right for a small comp.lock folder imho. Perhaps 2.5mm bladestock would be nice, but the current 3.00 are just fine too.
It looks just like a model that is totally thought through and designed from scratch to be a small folder in every detail.
It'd be cool if now the Sage 5 would get all the variants instead of the Para 3, and if only just for a change.

That's a pretty strong assertion. How has the Sage series moved backwards?Larry_Mott wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 1:02 pmPerhaps i am not alone in silently wishing for the Sage series to move forward, to the Sage 6 instead of sideways and backwards :)

Probably in reference to the return of the Sage 1 in Maxamet, but I don’t entirely share their opinion.ugaarguy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 5:14 pmThat's a pretty strong assertion. I picked up these brown canvas Micarta scales for my Sage5 LW and they are freakin' awesome!

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Give me this in Rex-121 and I just might quit the game.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
These scales are really, really nice!! Just as Micarta should look like imho.
Makes me want a Sage 5 LW even more and give it similar scales.
This knife is just such a great design, and this comes from a guy who is generally neither really into small folders nor into comp.locks.

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Thanks! I think they are absolutely on point, perfectly designed, great texture... The Sage5 LW has long been my favorite LW model of any series but these scales just put it over the top. :)
Cheers,

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
I may have missed it, but where did you get those scales from?
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
No worries, here's the link. I stumbled upon them on Reddit, had never heard of or dealt with them but they were super easy to deal with, shipped next day, responded to an email within a couple hours... A+ from my one encounter.
