"Adventkranz" and "Bratwürstelsonntag"
Hello Everyone,
in Austria we enjoy the time before christmas with old traditions.
So we celebrate the 4 sundays before 12-24.
It is called "Advent" and we light a candle on each sunday.
Today is the 1st "Advent" and in Upper Austria .... we celebrate "Bratwürstelsonntag".
So a traditional dish is "Bratwürstel" (fried sausages) with "Sauerkraut" and Erdäpfelschmarrn (roast potatoes)
regards
Markus

Hello.
We also lit the Adventkranz today.
Unfortunately we have no Würstel-tradition here. We had a short trip to Italy with Tramezini and Bellini.
The typical Adventkranz has a (Spyder)hole in the center. :D

Servus Ric,
you're right normally the "Kranz" is a Ring.
But the square size is more space saving.
We have to make plans for the Seconds Sale next days. :spyder:

How right you are, austrian spyder fan
For Christians, Saturday, November 29 marks the beginning of Advent, which for us Christians, means a season of Hope and Expectancy.
I should note, I do not belong to to The 7 Day Advent Church
But, I have a good friend that does.
I belong to a very small Christian Church.

When I was a child we followed the Catholic faith pretty closely and we too followed Advent.

We lit the advent candle growing up but my wife and I don't have our own. I appreciate you bringing attention to this for me

We always celebrate Advent. All of the ancient Christian traditions do. We do not have a food tradition, though. I think that is actually a great idea! It gives a sensory meaning to the season.
Are there food traditions for 2-4 Advent, as well?

Your right Doc, the Ancient Christian traditions do.
We also offer Communion every service as well.
I was suprised to find that a lot of Church's in my area do not. But, I dont wanna derail this thread
Just a thought.

Hi Doc,
in "Advent" or "Vorweihnachtszeit" ( pre Christmas time) there are a lot of traditional food. Cookies, Stollen (a sweet Bakery whith nuts, fruits and spices), and other Winter dishes.
The 2nd to 4th Advent (sunday) has no special dish for dinner.

But since my son goes to school and since his first communion he is also an acolyte and so my wife an I go to church wenn he is "on duty".

I can absolutely get behind any celebration that involves sausage. Happy holidays! :)
