Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Actually this was yesterday already, and for whatever reason I spontaneously grabbed my BD1N Manix when starting for a nice uphill run on a nearby mountain.
The mountain would allow for making more vertical distance, but I normally run up just like 1100 meters (3600 feet) of vertical distance to a plateau, and up there one long round.
The pics are from the point where one gets to that plateau, one taken at early - , the other at late afternoon (I spent some time up there, cause I was searching for a certain cave (unsuccessfully...
))
The city below is my hometown Salzburg and some other surrounding communities :)
What can be seen very well in this pic: Salzburg really lies at the very edge of the alps, which still surround it to the south, east and west, but to the north (the direction of the pic) the flatlands start

Honestly, I’m not a fan of serrations but I am going to try again. My first impressions so far are the same impressions I have always had. I need to find some time to sharpen this thing up a bunch and round the points off. Until then I will be ripping and tearing my way through stuff I guess.The Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 2:57 pmHey, that's a new one isn't it? How do you like the cutting performance?

I really hope that Spyderco applies some CQI to their serration style. It is much needed in my opinion.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 4:17 amHonestly, I’m not a fan of serrations but I am going to try again. If you want to get a better taste of what shallower, more rounded serrations are like, I highly recommend getting a Byrd Cara Cara Rescue. They're cheap but the quality is high, and I have found that serrated 8Cr13MoV is no slouch.

I have the same thoughts as you Darby. Sometimes the serrations glide right though and sometimes they don't, even on the same piece of material. That's why I tend to like the consistency of a PE.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 4:17 amHonestly, I’m not a fan of serrations but I am going to try again. I have no interest in Chinese Spydercos. I do have a well used and well sharpened serrated K04 that I really enjoy. If I can get a folder to work as well as it does I’ll be happy.The Meat man wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 5:43 amI really hope that Spyderco applies some CQI to their serration style. Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I know that this is the Spyderco forum and not the Byrd forum, but I gotta say that the Byrd Cara Cara 2 rescue is an absolute tank. The action may not be as smooth as my Siren, but it is spydie flickable, the blade drops when the lock bar is depressed and it locks up like a tank which evidently is not always the case with some of the Seki lightweights. While not impervious to the elements like the salts, 8CR13MoV serrated slices through cartilage and fish gills like buttah and seems to hold up pretty decently. I am gonna get the serrated LC200N Pac Salt 2 just because I can, but like the Meat Man says, the Cara Cara 2 Rescue ain't no slouch and at a MAP price of $32.20 there is little excuse for anyone not sampling the serrated waters.The Meat man wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 5:43 amI really hope that Spyderco applies some CQI to their serration style. My black lightsaber

Sage 5 Lightweight. Accompanied by the SAK Waiter. Waiter is soon to be replaced by a shiny new Bantam Alox this week.
The Sage I bought last April and has been my exclusive EDC since. Great little folder.

I rounded the points on my dragonfly pretty quickly.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 4:17 amHonestly, I’m not a fan of serrations but I am going to try again. I simply used my sharpmaker at 30 degrees and put 80 grit sand paper over the left rod.
Took a fee hundred passes and half a sheet of sand paper
But now when I slice a piece of paper or cut cardboard, it feels almost the same as my plain edges

Two very different yet genius designs from Sal: Police 4 K390, and SE Sheepsfoot Caribbean.
