C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
OK I told you all that I would address the issue of handle colors as some of you all wanted me to do. But do realize that none of this as of now is "written in concrete". These are simply suggestions for all of you to consider.
These are the 5 colors that I would love to see the PE & SE versions of the C-60, Ayoob Sprint Run. Now these aren't in any particular order because I actually like all of them. And again I'm not opposed to one color for PE and another color for SE.
(1) Burgundy ( I love all my Burgundy Handle Spyders)
(2) Blue-Green ( which is one of my favorite colors in real life)
(3) Dark Gray ( which would fit in any scenario)
(4) Dark Blue ( which would look good in any set up IMO)
(5) BLACK ( actually a deep, dark jet black to be precise  )
Now if by some strange twist of fate and they would elect to make this into one of the Salt Series and use LC200N then I would love to see either a Nuclear Yellow or Black handle. But none of this would preclude any viable suggestions that most of you might like better. Just having a newly revamped C-60 Ayoob in SE & PE is my top priority. What do you all say???????

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
I like the burgundy idea...it reminds me of some of the older micarta models that got that color, it seems classy and "period correct". I'm not crazy about yellow but if it means getting this in H1/LC then absolutely yes I can always Rit dye it.

JD’s suggested colors work for me.
I’d not like a cladded steel.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Yeah if they do a Nuclear Yellow Salt version then dying it is always an option. But that would be my last choice.
You're not kidding about some of the older Burgundy Micarta handles having a really classy look.
Then you could just use "black" for the Spyderedged version. Because I will use an SE & PE set of these quite a bit if this comes to pass. David I think we've actually got some guys actually drooling for the new C-60 in Spyderedge :D
Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
I've always hated that I missed out on this model, I think the last sprint might have still been available when I joined the forum but at the time I just didn't get the whole design of this knife and didn't understand SE. Now that I understand both I really think it needs a resurrection. I could always track one down on the secondary market but I'd rather get it fresh and new (and at a reasonable price).

I vote burgundy. I looked into embedding an online poll with an iframe in a reply post, but it does not seem like it is possible.

I have no problems with any of those colors JD. My preference would be the following
Navy Blue
Dark Grey
Blue-Green
Burgundy
Black
Navy Blue
Dark Grey
Blue-Green
Burgundy
Black

There are so many designs I'd love to get the BHQ treatment. I am all in on another Ayoob. I did not have the original but did have the G-10 and stupidly let it go. I remember really digging the knife.
I think the tip down clip is a deal breaker for many today. It is not for me, but for some they just can't get past it. It can work they just don't believe it can. I think a multi-mount clip would be a must.
I could go for that jade G-10, just because I ALWAYS go for that jade G-10.
The Ayoob seems to be one of those Spyderco's people either really love or really hate. I am in the former category.
That would be in Mr. Glesser's hands at this moment. Because it looks like they might have to use VG-10 to make this project feasible for Spyderco. But we'll wait and see what the General ( Sal) might have to say about it.
But it sure sounds delicious to me :D
I'm not opposed to Hap40, but I'd prefer M4. Alas, if they can't work with it, I guess I could settle.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Since people are really jonesin' for SE, would H1 make for a good steel for a sprint? I've heard people talk about how great SE is in H1, but never really bothered to look into it further. If there is merit to H1's greatness in SE, it seems like the perfect choice. This is assuming that it's easy for Seki City to get and work with it, which I am guessing is the case due to the H1 Salt Series being Seki knives.

I self admittedly suck at editing photos, changing colors, tints, shadows, etc. I’m always impressed with guys here who make it look effortless.
Today I was playing around with the pic I posted of my Ayoob a couple of pages back. I went through all the colors mentioned here, burgundy/maroon and black were the two colors that stood out and looked the best.....to me.
I know I’ve mentioned the (back the blue) blue here several times but I’d like to officially cast my vote right now for burgundy scales!
The 2020 / 2021 Spyderco Massad Ayoob.......
Japanese VG-10 steel in serrated & plain edge. More serrated than plain!
Burgundy G-10 scales.
***Larger opening hole, please Sal.
Give me this knife in serrated and I’m 200% in! There you go JD, that was easy!

Hey Dude if you can talk Mr. Glesser into using M-4 you got my vote. Because I think that steel would be good for PE & SE both from what I understand about it's properties. It seems Sal believes because of previous obligations that we pretty much have to use VG-10 to make this project get off the ground. And if that's the case I'll just plan on sharpening it often. And VG-10 is a really decent steel for SE>> it ranks up in my top 5 of all the steels I like for SE.Sumdumguy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 4:34 pmThere are so many designs I'd love to get the BHQ treatment. But if you could somehow convince Mr. Glesser that M-4 in PE would sell better or have any other marketing advantages then more power to you
Irrespective of the blade steel I'm just really excited that so many of the newer guys here on the Forum and so many other newer people becoming knife fans >> they are just going to go bunkers over a new C-60 Ayoob model. But don't lose focus that it has to be made in SE & PE both to be a great overall success. I'm just super thankful to all you guys who have made this thread possible. But hey don't quit now :D

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
I kind of like the Back the Blue if it were to be Navy blue G10 with TiCN coated SE VG10. Otherwise Burgundy G10 sounds like a winner. VG10 is fine. SE for the win. I'd be down for Coyote G10 as well to match the Glock 19X. :D
Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
OK it appears that the consensus at the present time is a G-10 handle ( Burgundy and/or Black)>> maybe Burgundy SE & Black PE. And according to Mr. Glesser himself it's most likely going to be narrowed down to VG-10 blade steel.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 10:48 pmI kind of like the Back the Blue if it were to be Navy blue G10 with TiCN coated SE VG10. Now a coated blade that a few of you bring up really hasn't been discussed much at length. Myself I tend to like some of my Spyders with coated blades. However for the type of folder that the C-60 Ayoob is designed to be I'm wondering if that might be an added expense that might best be put aside for the moment>> unless there is a huge fan request for such a feature.
Lanyard hole is a given. And I do wish that Spyderco might consider my own personal request of a handle/scales being somewhat or at least slightly thicker. But it's also one I can live without. Maybe a newer design of pocketclip if one is ready for market?
I think it's safe to say that the MAJORITY of the fans do want to see this fabulous design offered in full SE. Oh for sure we have several plain edged enthusiasts and I want them to be happy as well. For myself I want both SE & PE ( like the good ol' days ). And believe me I'll be using both as I'm sure others will be as well. I hope that most of this addresses the main desires of the Spyderville citizenry at this time, but at the same time will be within the parameters of what Spyderco can realistically offer up. But please this thread is far from finished. Please continue
Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Trivial, but if it has a black clip like the original, I'd still like to see the yellow bug like the original.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
i'd love this knife in burgundy with dlc and se. i'd even be happy with it in vg10. i also think that it would look amazing with bronzed hardware and liners, especially if we can't get it coated, but that might be pushing it.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 8:11 amOK it appears that the consensus at the present time is a G-10 handle ( Burgundy and/or Black)>> maybe Burgundy SE & Black PE. i prefer coated blades for self defense. it helps with discrete carry and corrosion resistance. i think that's important for people that want to carry iwb, especially when they are working out and might not have pockets or don't want a knife flopping around in their pocket.
i'm curious about a lanyard hole on a tip down knife. does it add any function to a knife when it's buried in the pocket and the knife has a full handle? if it's just for decoration, that's fine. like i said, i'm just curious.
a knife like this seems to be meant for se, but i won't say anything is wrong with wanting it in pe also. i definitely hope to see se at least.
if this knife is made, it will be amazing. if it's done according to what is being requested here, that would be especially sweet. i'm loving this thread.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
I vote for non-coated blades. They just don't do it for me. As for the pocket clip, I like how previous version had the gold spyder on them. Should that stay? I've never held an Ayoob before. Howe does the clip feel in the tip-down position? Some knives I prefer tip down due to comfort in hand (P4LW). Should that stay as well?
Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Sure I would go along with that. However do consider what I put down in one of my recent posts. That is if Spyderco has a newer/better pocketclip I would love it if they would put it on this newer C-60 Ayoob model. I do like the Gold Spydie on that black clip myself>> but don't discard the possibility of a newer/better pocket clip.
Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
No DLC, please. I'm fine with Burgundy G10 and VG-10 so long as it's SE. Although, I'd always prefer purple. :D
There is also talk of an exclusive. So, let's keep the conversation going. Who's arm would have to be twisted to get M4 in Seki?
