Re: Spyderco Face Mask (now bandana, hat and patch)
I’m in on a few patches and bandanas.
As for hats, I’m with @bearfacedkiller, I have an “XL” dome (7-5/8), but the real issue with fit is depth. I’ve found New Era 9TWENTY’s fit fairly well but even they could stand another 1/2” of depth to really feel like they fit my head instead of just sitting on top of it.
Lots of good ideas floating around on designs. I err on the side of simple, but asymmetrical can add a little “extra” without being too busy. Like maybe “Spyderco” or the bug off center on the front down low and the other to one side of the back opening. Or maybe “Spyderco” embroidered on the side edge of the bill with a bug on the back somewhere. I’d probably sport the red and black ideas but being as it’s UGA colors and I’m an Auburn Man I don’t know if I’d get the red hat. I like the earth tones idea someone mentioned. Camo-esque would be cool on the bandana, but maybe not on the hat. I know it doesn’t really call on Spydie colors but an od green hat with black embroidery could be cool and then maybe a small red bug for a little pop on the back?? I dunno, so much potential with Spydie branding. Sorry for the rambling nature just some of the stream going through this as yet un-Spydie-covered noggin.

But as long as they aren't too tall and stiff in the front panel, and there's an adjustable back strap, men's hats work for me. Here's a women's one that I have, which fits really well:sal wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 9:06 amHi Julia,
Could you please explain on hat sizes for women? I didn't know they were different?
Hey Paul,
What's a "knitted Jeep cap"?
Lately, I've been wearing a baseball cap wit a leather strap that slides in a clamp to adjust size, It's been working well for me. I personally found that elastic straps are always putting pressure on my head which gives me a headache. I also need to adjust for wind or needing a haircut.

This is the style I prefer. Six panel, unstructured, low crown, Velcro or adjustable buckle/strap in the back. It wouldn’t need all of the Velcro loop material, (front, top, back on this one,) but the loop material does make for a good spot to hang more Spyderco patches. In the second picture my “assistant”, Abby, is wearing the type with the Velcro adjustable strap. A Spyderco logo or the name could go on the strap.
I have a pin head, so a snap-back, truckers hat makes me look like I’m wearing a stove pipe hat like the real Cat In The Hat.

Sal,
I just wanted to show a couple of the many patterns done by Rockmount Ranch Wear, in Denver, on their bandanas. These are 19” x 20”, (48.2 cm x 50.8 cm) after washing, and they’re single sided. Obviously, full color printing isn’t a problem for them. I don’t know if Rockmount silk screens these themselves, or if they’re done elsewhere, but they are made in the US. Could this shorten lead time if Spyderco went to the same maker with a Spyderco design?

A hat is a completely different matter.I would buy one.

"Muzzle" or not , I'd be down for a mask with a big ol' Spyder on the front. Failing that, a ballcap would be a likely buy from me. My only request is not to use velcro on the adjustment band, and to make it rather lightweight, for the warmer months.

TazKristi censored my posts in which i expressed my opinion that masks are muzzles, which, ironically confirmed my point.
I'm not here to learn to keep my mouth shut, and i also don't have to be here,so if you can't stand another opinion, don't bother warning me again, and kick me out, because i won't be muzzled

I feel your pain Burt! I don't think I've ever had a hat that fit 100% right. My head is like 7 7/8 or something around it. 7.75 is too tight and an 8 is too loose.Burton Knut wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 12:22 pmI’m in on a few patches and bandanas.

Depth is the other kicker, they've got to cover my dome. I want a ball cap, not a yarmulke with a bill!
My only other thing is, can we get a Greyman version? Non descript, no large distinguishing logos. Put a little Spyder Bug on the back, about the size of a penny/dime.
Another thought, make a challenge coin hat. The challenge coin logo on the front would be somewhat discreet.
Lastly. If it is an adjustable strap back, put the bread van on the end of the strap, like it's driving across it. That would be neat and the only people who would know, are people I don't mind socializing with.

To each his own I guess, even if you don’t subscribe to the idea that wearing a procedure mask is at least a courtesy to others.Surfingringo wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 3:06 pmI’m with you on this one. It seems like the face mask is quickly becoming a controversial and divisive symbol. Plenty of companies are going to make some $$ selling them but if my company name was already established I wouldn’t get anywhere near that market. The Meat man wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 1:13 pmPersonally, I wouldn't buy one. This face mask thing won't last forever and I for one will be glad when it's over.
But, now we’re in August and America is still looking inept.
Outdoor Research has entered the mask game, with a domestic product no less, and raised the stakes by adding an N95 fabric filter, thus turning their mask into a respirator. The demand seems high, probably because the pandemic isn’t ending anytime soon, because, you know, science.
Given thIs inconvenient truth, and assuming this thread is still about masks, take a look at this article for prolonging N95 fabric (PDF in link): https://mbio.asm.org/content/11/3/e00997-20

Re: Spyderco Face Mask (now bandana, hat and patch)
I'd buy a bandana and wear it like a mask because I hope this won't last forever and I want to have my neighbors when it ends.... I have carried bandanas for years prior to all this (fat kid problem) to wipe my brow.

My county here in NY is doing great with low infection rates and it's weird NOT to see someone wearing a mask in public. I'm still down for a Spyderco mask! I don't see things changing until AT LEAST next year.

Re: Spyderco Face Mask (now bandana, hat and patch)
You've done bandannas before and you have your sales history for reference. Not saying bandannas are old school, but buffs are a very useful piece of outdoor kit. Perhaps a bit more fashionable and contemporary than bandannas........especially given the pandemic where they can serve as a backup face mask. A large red Spydie logo positioned to cover the mouth would be so KEWL, but then again, maybe I'm just kinda weird.
Re: Spyderco Face Mask (now bandana, hat and patch)
I mentioned a collaboration with Buff USA earlier in the thread and it didn't seem to get too much traction but this would be my #1 choice! I would have wanted to see this happen even if there wasn't a global pandemic. I've been wearing Buffs for years now.skeeg11 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 4:39 pmYou've done bandannas before and you have your sales history for reference. A Spyderco Neck Gaiter would be ideal.

I'd still be down for a face mask with a big ol' Spyderco symbol on it. This mess isn't going away anytime soon, so I don't mind representing a favorite brand while trying to slow the spread.

Whenever I hunt or fish I always have a buff. Whether work or play, if you spend a considerable amount of time outdoors, you may wish to consider using a buff..........especially if you're fair skinned.
