Para 3 LW Unexpected Test

#1

Post by Featherblade »

Today, I've dropped my Para 3 from the 4-th floor while working.
She fell from 33 feet.

First impact - between the edge of the BD1N blade and a metal construction at the mid of the falling.

Second impact - between the butt of the FRN handle and the concrete slab around the construction.

Good job, Spyderco !

No people, animals or concrete slabs were harmed during the test.

Nice.

I once threw an endura from two stories up onto concrete because my friend kept knocking it for being cheap/not good. Weirdly he wouldnt do the same with his "nicer" knife. Endura was fine.

Good to see yours is fine.

This is also one of my criteria for a real work knife. If it goes off a roof or off a ladder, will it still work, and will I really care that it happened.

That's pretty cool the tip is intact. My k390 pm2 didn't do that well from a 4' drop onto my garage floor. Need to regrind  I do like cts bd1n, it's surprised me.

I once dropped a Manix LW from 300 feet onto gravel, and it came through basically unscathed. The knife was closed at the time, so there was no edge impact.

I don't think there's a steel in existence that wouldn't have chipped or rolled from that lol.

IMHO, if the blade was made from ZDP-189 and the handle - from G-10/CF, the damage would be significant. BD1N is a tough steel and the FRN has elasticity.

This is why we don't work below other workers and insist that all barriers and barricades are intact. I wonder if hardhats are BD1N Rated.

Surprised your Para , did not open up the PARACHUTE😁. Held up really well in my opinion . You know what I have owned the g10 para 3 for a long time now must try the light weight, tough as old boots. Still living the dream . In.

This was a work outside my regular job and I've worked alone.
We have to use such plastic "potties" at work and nobody likes them. I think your doubts are justified.
