Bravo Zulu, Matt!

Wish I had your patience and commitment.

Prior to my current position I worked as a mechanical design draftsman for well over a decade so fair to say I have a fairly good understanding of the time and effort that went into your project. :)

Nice job!

I do agree with Warstein about the CBBL vs the Axis lock. I dropped an axis lock BM and it came open and tried to stab me in the foot. However, it is easier (not smoother).

Thanks! ;)

And yes, despite (as explained in my previous post) I strongly prefer the CBBL for various reasons, the Axxis lock is easier (too easy for me...) to operate. Might be an advantage for people with really weak fingers, maybe due to an illness, surgery or whatever (or admittedly just cause differently to me, they prefer the feel of the axxis lock). What still remains is its in my experience weaker detent and more fragile spring.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

Can you still pull back on the CBBL and whip the blade out?

I remember that being one of the most fun things to do with an Axis lock, plus it means you don't have to use the thumbstud.

The again, most benchmades don't have round holes. With a round hole, there's no thumb stud to avoid.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Yes, you can "pull back on a CBBL (even with just one finger) and whip the blade out " easily (with just the thumb it will depend on finger strength)

There are generally several additional methods to operate a CBBL that get never mentioned as far as I am aware of:

- For example pull the lock with the thumb (or thumb and middle finger) and guide the blade to closed with the index finger.
- Or, a very secure method concerning potential dropping of the knife: Grab the handle with index-, middle-,, ring finger and pinky (so the fingers are wrapped around the handle like when you're cutiing), pull the lock with thumb and let the choil drop on your index finger, than guide the blade to closed
- Alternatively: Just like the last method, but grab the handle just with middle, ring finger and pinky, pull the lock with thumb and index finger, then let the choil drop on your middle finger.

Thanks! Yeah I've been doing CAD for a little over 10 years now myself, people don't always realize that with these kinds of projects 80% of the work happens before you've even ordered the materials.

It just comes down to taste in the end. As far as the detent goes, it's really a function of two things as far as I could tell. The first is spring strength, mine are a little stiffer then a standard 'omega' but not by much. The second is how you grind the detent in the blade(see picture). I was shooting for somewhere in the middle of Axis and CBBL. I had to re-grind this area anyway to get the blade to fully close. The detent actually turned out right about how I wanted it, and I can always tweak it a little if I want.

That's badass! So...what's the secret to homemade Omega Springs? I've tried, and just cant get them to form and work?

Thanks a lot for the insight! Obviously you know a lot more about this than I do. All my personal experience with the Axxis lock admittedly comes from one single Minigrip.
An Axxis lock tweaked towards stronger detent (and with more durable springs) would be a vast improvement imho. But then, since the CBBL already gives me that (functionally, I know it is technically different) and even in Spydercos, I am happy anyway... ;)
