I have seen quite a bit of praise for this steel, but I've never owned or even used it -- and it's certainly outside my wheelhouse of steel expertise... so aside from it's excellent corrosion-resistance, what is it, in your experience, that makes this steel so neat-o-burrito?

well, i live in hawaii, so corrosion resistance is a top priority for me. i carry a pacific salt se in the ocean and when i work out and a native salt pe everywhere else.
i’m not steel snob or expert, but i’ve enjoyed lc200n as an edc steel. it holds an edge good enough for a standard edc knife and touches up easily. i’d probably put it near s30v, but i can also carry it in the ocean and never worry about it.
some people will say that their stainless steels are corrosion resistant enough. but even those steels, while they may not pit or develop rust spots as long as they are cleaned off, will suffer edge degradation quickly in corrosive environments. lc200n will maintain it’s fine edge in the salt water.
as far as why i want an enuff in lc200n, i’d love an outdoor/camp chore knife that i don’t need to rinse right away after use and that maintains a decent edge. i also happen to really like spyderco’s frn texturing and think it would be amazing in a camp kitchen or for field dressing game.

A Waterway is too large for what you're looking for? (Not FRN though, I know)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

It sounds like the Siren would meet your needs in spades, except for the frn.

Question for those who know, is the Siren’s grip texture anywhere near as aggressive as the Waterway? Same as peel ply g10, or somewhere in between?

Edited: found my answer on Spyderco’s website:

“To ensure a secure, non-slip grip in wet conditions, the blade is paired with a coarse-textured G-10 handle with a substantial integral guard.”

I actually have the leaf in the mail right now! Though I havent been able to find much on it as far as reviews and such, it doesnt seem very popular but it's been around for a good while so the numbers must be there to keep them around. Kind of the story with a lot of spyderco's fixed blades. Itll be my first but it would have been great to get it in LC200N, i think the only thing against it happening is the whole seki city thing. Has there been a seki blade with LC? I didn't think so but I'm not sure.

the waterway seems like a fine knife, and may end up in my collection, but isn’t what i’m looking for in this case. i really want the enuff for it’s small blade, leaf blade shape, and handle shape and material.

i don’t think there have been any seki knives in lc200n. i’m not sure what it would take to make that happen, so maybe it’s cost-prohibitive.

let us know how you like your enuff. there’s definitely a lack of info/reviews out there and every little bit helps. honestly, vg10 is probably a good steel for this knife and for my applications, i’m just spoiled by the maintenance free qualities of lc200n.

Yeah I hear ya ladybug! Im diggin the lc200n in my spydiechef, though I've only had it for like 2 months. I work maintenance in a smithfield plant  and I've always used folders, but I dont like to shove my raw meat/grease/brine covered hands in my pocket to cut something. So really the LC200N would have made it the "perfect" knife for my work but I think the VG-10 will do just fine. I'll be sure to report back and maybe inspire a few purchases and who knows what could happen. :D your idea has my full support!

I have done some truly stupid things to the edge of my Caribbean and have never had anything worse than a slightly rolled edge.

It has a few minor issues with galvanic corrosion. Aside from that, it was(still is) a game changing stainless steel.

i've had more experience now with it now, to include rolling my serrations on my caribbean cutting some really tough straps. i have to agree that it's a tough steel and, since it takes an edge quickly, it would be a really nice alternative to tool steels.

Its been great! I've had it on my belt at 3 o'clock 6 days a week at work for over a year now! I know a lot of guys don't care for the thick blade stock but thats part of what makes it great. I've kept it at 20 dps for extra durability and I've cut clean through 12/4 S O cord with it with no edge damage.

Not the greatest knife to tackle a mountain of cardboard but completely capable of doing so. Its been better than expected cutting 2-3 inch nylon braided poly hose, thick rubber gaskets, deburring pvc, stripping wire, and so on. Its been covered in brine, raw meat, acids and various chemicals and no issues with corrosion whatsoever. I would definitely appreciate not having to worry about any of that as well as added edge holding and toughness over vg-10.

The leaf blade actually reminds me of a mini fixed no choil shaman. The lines are pretty close.

Ergos are great. Even for xl hands. I thought i would miss having a choil but you're closer to the edge than the delica/endura and the handle offers great control and safety. Im a big fan of the contoured FRN and would like to see more of it! Hearing about a 4 inch version coming up im pretty excited and will instantly buy. Though I'm a little disappointed to hear the blade stock is thinned out. There are already so many super slicey spydercos out there, I like them and I have many, but that stout little blade can handle some serious crap. I hope it doesn't hit the discontinued list soon but if it does ill buy one or two more!
