Ikuchi
Re: Ikuchi
So to identify if one got a CQI version or one from the initial production design you can check if the tip is buried deeper inside the handles? Can you see a difference in the washers without diassembly too?
Sorry, too lazy to read the whole thread....

Re: Ikuchi
I don't know if you can see a difference or not but you can just check if it drops shut.
Re: Ikuchi
OMG is this knife sexy!! Incredibly beautiful, handsome, elegant! I'm in love... :D
Definitely received a CQI version. When the lock bar is pushed, the blade is swinging free like a pendulum. I have no other spydie that compares to this one in this aspect, it's even smoother than my PM2 or Manix 2. Brilliant!

Re: Ikuchi
This does look cool, and the titanium screws make this even more appealing. But what's your problem with the original cf scales? They're grippy, well executed (unless I miss something), just plain nice.

Thanks!
I have no issue with the original peel ply CF scales, but I just wanted to go for some additional flair and color. The brown canvas micarta on the CruCarta Shaman has opened my eyes to other material options and textures.

Re: Ikuchi
Those look amazing fellas.
If somebody ever does do a sprint-run Ikuchi, I’m hoping they consider something a little more like what you’ve both created than a simple steel and color change - though I’d take that, too

Re: Ikuchi
Don't get me wrong, it's a superb design. It's great the way it is.
Would you consider making a bigger version? Or is this no option for this type of knife? I know it's supposed to be a gentleman's folder. I just think I could love it even more if it was more of a "full size" knife...

Re: Ikuchi
Just got my ikuchi the detent is ridiculously stiff. I can’t open it with thumb or index finger unless I put a cloth or something over the wheel. I can flick it open by pressing the lock and blade drops shut fine. Just wish I could use the wheel. Has anyone had any luck sanding the detent ball or will it break in? Or do I just contact spyderco and see what they can do?

Re: Ikuchi
The detent feels very stiff out of the box on all of them, and the force needed to get the blade out is surprising. (Which is a good thing, for blade retention in your pocket and to make sure the blade opens all the way when you flip.)CPelletier wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 10:05 pmJust got my ikuchi the detent is ridiculously stiff. Mostly, though, it's just learning the motion. It's kind of like learning to snap your fingers.
It took me a week or so of playing with it before I could "figure out" the force needed and get reliable deployment with my thumb, and then another few weeks to get semi-reliable deployment with an index finger. (Still can't get index finger deployment 100% of the time.) I do not believe there was any wear or break-in involved, just my finger learning where and how to put the pressure.
I would not expect Spyderco W&R to change anything, but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask. Since your pivot is not binding it sounds like everything is within spec.
Modding the Ikuchi detent might make it easier to flip if you physically can't get enough force out of your index finger, but it's a touchy operation since the blade doesn't have much travel from closed before the tip is exposed in a scary way.

Re: Ikuchi
Mine was like that - literally gave myself blisters trying to deploy it. Many people have said it's just a matter of learning to flip it correctly, but personally I didn't think my fingers would survive the learning curve. I returned it to spyderco directly - they said it was within tollerance, but offered me full msrp store credit, which I gladly accepted.CPelletier wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 10:05 pmJust got my ikuchi the detent is ridiculously stiff. Re: Ikuchi
Mine was definitely very stiff initially but did break-in quickly as in a couple days. In terms of "learning how to flip it" it matters most initially to start said break-in period, "bic-flicking" with the thumb and was much easier to do when it was still stiff, after a few days mine flipped anyway I did it as long as you pull more out and away from the knife and not into the handle like a standard tab flipper. Incidentally I now bic-flick the majority of my tab flippers as a result.CPelletier wrote: Just got my ikuchi the detent is ridiculously stiff. Re: Ikuchi
are there any plans to release the Ikuchi in 20cv, m390,CTS-XHP, or 204p? I'd love to get one of these in any of those steels

Re: Ikuchi
I finally picked one up a few days ago, and really like it. I can open it reliably with either hand (both index fingers, right thumb only so far). Very comfy in hand, small in pocket.
Re: Ikuchi
Funny thing is: put the Ikuchi next to the Smock - they're like brothers, quite close brothers I might add! And they come from different designers. :)
I love them both, sincerely! Best buys of the last 12 months!
