Replace inlay on a Vesuvius?

#1

Post by Richard K »

Just got a Vesuvius and while I like the knife, I'm not wild about the blue inlay. Is it possible to remove the inlay in one piece in order to use it as a pattern for replacement material. I'd like to use carbon fiber or a rosewood veneer. Any thoughts?

I suppose you could. I would wait and ask Sal what they used to hold the inlay in with. Just in case its some super epoxy or something. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Blades. Yeah I'm a little reluctant to tackle it without that info. Sure would look nice with an exotic wood or CF inlay though.

Hi Richard. I imagine you could dig it out, it is glued in. You could carve a replacement, make sure it is an exact fit, then re-glue.

Tjhe shell insert is .030, make sure your replacement is no thicker.

Thanks Sal, I'm still working up the courage but as soon as I find a piece of suitable material (and the time) I think I'll attempt it.
