While it is at this point fiction, it is worth noting and thinking about. What would you do in the event of a true zombie apocalypse, in which either the dead were somehow reanimated (perhaps by evil "alien entities" that are bent on attacking living humans) or some horrible viral plague that gained control over the human brain and turned people into raging murderous cannibalistic but living monsters?
Here are some interesting info links on this. I originally thought fleeing out to sea and finding some serene uninhabited island would be the best way to survive, but according to this, I was wrong, and it is not as easy as one may think:

They go down the list and show the practical problems with hiding on an island or on the water.
What surprised me was that the zombies could walk around and reach the shore. I guess that makes sense. I thought if they walked into the water, and if they did not float, they would sink and not be able to ascend because the ocean would drive them deep down into deep ocean trenches and they would not be able to move upwards because to do that they would need to climb, and zombies cannot climb.
This one tells you to flee to places like the northern Rocky Mountains:

I think good knives and axes, hatchets and pikes and machetes and related things would be useful for defense.

How would the Australians and New Zealanders weather a zombie attack?
What about polynesian islands?

However, here is some good news on this: The zombie outbreak would be stopped rather quickly by nature, unless it is caused and maintained by some supernatural evil or alien super technology:
Zombies would dessicate:

They would be broken down by bacteria and the elements and even if that did not happen rapidly, they would soon dry up and not be able to move around.
Zombies in winter climates would have the water in their brains freeze when the temperatures got low enough and the freezer burn process would cause their brains to explode.
Zombies in the salt water of ocean would break down by the processes there.
