At 2.6 ounces I doubt it has liners.
I am personally super happy about a super lightweight 4 inch knife.
It looks a lot like the C54 Calypso which makes me happy. When do we get the first sprint? :-D

I prefer the heft and balance the liners provide, weight is a non issue for me. Also, strength is a functional benefit.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
The legendary Chief, at last. I’m s-o-o pleased.
Reminiscent of my graceful Calypso, but Golden-made, so perhaps not even a hint of lock-rock. And no thumb-ramp (some days you need one, some days you don’t, as Sal has said).
Because it has been so long in the making, and because we live in hyper-nativist times, I hope the Chief will premiere with a premium American steel other than S30V. Say, 3V or 4V (or 10V, or 15V).
But I’ll take it in S30V without a gripe.

I just prefer the stiffness that liners actually impart, but linerlessness does not offend me.Sumdumguy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:45 amI prefer the heft and balance the liners provide, weight is a non issue for me. Also, strength is a functional benefit.
My numerous Salts (Caribbean excepted) are linerless, and I would have snapped up the Manix2 one, but I was spending my Spyderco budget on other models at the time.

Why the confusion? Mr Blonde said the chief was linerless in his post.

One vote against the swedge here. It will be more comfortable to use your thumb on the spine without the swedge.rivy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:00 amYes! The wharnfly is a thing! So excited. I do agree though that it really needs a swedge! Gotta keep it in line with the dragonfly family and swedge it up. :Daraneae wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 5:22 pmThank-you Sal!!!!!! This is something I have waited for for years! It really needs a swedge, but I can add that if I must. Can I have one yesterday please?Mr Blonde wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 2:46 pmThe wharncliffe Spyderco Delica was popular enough to bring out an Endura with a big ‘wharnie’ blade, and now we can look forward to a Dragonfly 2 with a wharncliffe blade. Personally, I prefer the ‘wharnie’ in a smaller blade. An original Kiwi has been my office folder for over 10 years now. I’ll definitely add this lil’ big wharncliffe to my everyday carry rotation!
Specifications
Overall Length: 14,1 cm / 5.56 inches
Blade Length: 5,7 cm / 2.25 inches
Blade Thickness: 2.5 mm / 0.09 inches
Weight: 24 grams / 0.84 ounces
I have no information on pricing or specific release dates.
.....
The Chief looks awesome, it will give the Police 4 some competition.
And I would like a wharncliffe manbug as well :D

One of Wouter’s pics (third up from the bottom) appears to show metal where liners might be nested.Liquid Cobra wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 10:35 amWhy the confusion? Mr Blonde said the chief was linerless in his post.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
i thought so, too, initially, but after zooming in it looks like that is light coming through from the back on either side of the lockbar, not metal reflecting.wrdwrght wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 10:57 amOne of Wouter’s pics (third up from the bottom) appears to show metal where liners might be nested.Liquid Cobra wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 10:35 amWhy the confusion? Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Hmm... Well, I have a feeling that the Chief will likely cancel out my interest in Police 4 LW. Golden made, sleek and light, arguably a better lock (from my experience with Japanese vs US back locks), and I already have a Police 4 in G10.
****, that Chief is a great looking knife.
What else can possibly throw a monkey wrench into the mix?

Native Chief, WOW. Last backlock I purchased was maybe in 2013, the Caly 3.5. Moved on to framelock flippers and compression locks ever since. The Native Chief is about to bring me back around again. The platform is so ripe for some interesting sprints too!

Yeah man! Me too! Big, light and beautiful with a Golden back lock!

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
No liners on the Chief makes it more interesting to me and further differentiates it from the P4. Also made in Golden is a plus as others have stated; their lockbacks often have zero blade play.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
I’ll certainly defer to your knowledge. The leaking light must have faked me out.
Since I have your attention, thanks again, Wouter, for all you do.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Native chief looks gorgeous, unfortunately I have no need for a 4” bladed knife. 3.25-3.6 ish would’ve been right in my edc wheelhouse.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
That's my only gripe with the Spyderco back/mid lock. Police 4, Caly 3 & 3.5, Endura -- they all have just a little bit of vertical blade play. All Japan-made. Not noticeable unless I'm cutting something that requires significant downward force but it still bothers me knowing that there’s still some play.

That's the first of the Native line that has really ever done anything for me lol. But I think I'd wait for Sprints/Exclusives
