Orange handle Endura.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

I prefer the Manix 2 LW for hiking. I was using the S110V version, but I just picked up the Maxamet version at the factory second scale that I plan on using this summer.

Spyderco Aqua Salt SE in H1 with a yellow handle, secured to the outside of your pack with zip-ties.

Both the Stretch and Military work well with gloves for me. I normally choose one of them if I am in the woods.

Kinda hard to argue that. I also agree with the Manix 2 LW. Had that with me just last week in the woods helping my friend and his father getting prepared to tap maple trees. His father was quite impressed with the Manix. Said he's never seen a knife like that before.

What will you need to cut on your hike? Are we talking day hike, overnight hike with camping or the survival fantasy of being stuck in the middle of nowhere and you were too stupid to bring food, proper clothing or shelter and must now survive with only your folding knife? I can't say that I have ever had to cut anything on short day hikes, even though I always do bring a knife. I think I did cut a loose thread off my jacket one time.

Caribbean, possibly serrated, definitely leaf.

I prefer a fixed blade for hiking(and a folder :P).

Folding: Pacific Salt

Fixed: Aqua Salt or Street Bowie

All are very light weight, stoutly crafted, and zero maintenance on the trails. I've taken them all on numerous hikes and camping trips.

I agree with David as well. Gloves and Military are made for each other.

Agree, out of experience, gloves and a good liner lock is a perfect combination;
though gloves and a good backlock is not too far away (Endura, Stretch for me - wearing gloves I really like the boye dent).

Actually, if it’s really cold, I’d trust G10 a little more than FRN. I tested it, and at -20° Celsius, I broke FRN. Of course, who’d be hiking in that?
- best wishes, Jazz.

Really?!?! Man, that´s good info!! I most times carry folders in the outdoors, and sometimes (seldom, admitedly) it gets even down to -20 Celsius when I am there - while backcountry skitouring for example. Always thought FRN would be the best for harsh conditions due to it´s gripiness even when your hands are wet and cold.
But actually in -20 Celsius I just CARRIED a FRN folder, never really had to USE it, so there never was a risk to break it

One test does not equate to all frn.
I would still trust g10 in those conditions.
My favorite hiking folder is a Manix 2 LW, nonetheless.

For trips into the real woods hiking I have a small hatchet that weighs less than 16oz with the sheath.

I am outside wandering around in the woods almost everyday and winter lasts quite a while here. I often see temps way, way below freezing.

For me the Military is the best winter knife because I find it easy to use with gloves on. Carrying the REX45 Military today. :)
