If anyone missed out on these, there are a couple available as of right now. I think they must have had a couple returned.

I was glad people posted photos of the knife here. Aside from lack of funds,I was hoping for them to be about the same red as on Spyderco's boxes. But they seemed a bit deeper in color, ultimately I chose not to get one. I'll probably kick myself later.
Current favorite: Manix 2 with carbon fiber scales and cru-ware.

Mine arrived today: some comparison shots (and blatant show-off-ery) :)
Image
Spyderco box provides a standard comparison:
Never summer is 'cherry red'
Forum native is 'burgundy'
Box is 'fire engine red'

Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

Wow, everybody, this is a bunch of great pics. I like this shade of red with black, and a combo blade makes a nice platform to test both edge types at once. I've expended my knife pecuniary emolument for now, so I'll just have to spectate. Some feedback about how the serrations work out would be nice.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

A Ladybug hawkbill in the same spec (Black LC200 and red FRN) would be very appreciated at Casa Demoncase ;)

I like red and black together and think this would make a nice knife. I saw that one of the scale makers was offer red G10 scales for the PM2 so I ordered a set to put on my all black PM2. The color was similar to red used on the Never Summer Native and would've looked great. Unfortunately the scales were smooth and I wanted something with texture so I retuned them.

I'm up for anything black and red. I loved the NS Native 5 but wasn't thrilled with the combo edge. The markings on the blade were cool and I liked that it commemorated the FFF but it's not something that I thought I would actually use. So I let it go. :( Hopefully Spyderco will do something similar with another model with no markings on the blade and PE.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

With the hype on the LC200N Native over the last month and Sal indicating it release on the horizon, I wonder if some of the newer forum memebers realize we technically have already had a N5LW Salt release?

Today, the 3rd Colorado ski/snowboard resort opened up for the season. This time of year always reminds me of the Never Summer Native variant and breaks my heart because I gave mine away as a wedding gift and never secured one for myself.

I realize that the appeal of the new version is the full plain edge LC200N, lack of coating, and no NS & NFFF logo engraving. On this variant though the combo edge is the right call to give options if needed in the backcountry, the DLC contrasts against the snow, and the logos are just plain cool imo (I am biased towards Never Summer, anothrr great Colorado company.)

Does anyone still use theirs? How has the DLC/engraving held up over time?

I use mine very frequently, though admittedly the cf/ti military has been taking a lot of pocket time, and more recently the m4 Yojimbo 2. The coating looks basically like the first day I got it, and same with the engraving. love love love that knife. It's my go to lime cutter because I can use it and forget it.

I'm not sure if the new Native Salt is the same as the Never Summer version in terms of all of the parts. The new one is a "salt" model so I'm assuming that all the parts are highly rust resistant or rust proof. I figured ti clip like on the other salts?

I don’t have specifics but based on a couple of vague conversations with Sal and Eric, I believe there was a LOT of R&D that went into making the new Native a true “salt” knife. I think everything was considered and tested from hardware to lock components. I don’t know exactly how they solved all the issues and made the knife a true salt but I know for a fact they didn’t just slap an Lc200n blade in a Native LW and call it a Salt. I’m looking forward to getting one of these new Golden Salts and putting it through the ringer! :D

Good call, ABX. I had forgotten that the salts came with titanium clips.

Thanks for chiming in Surfgringo. No doubt those two and the rest of their team has put in a ton of time and energy into making sure this one represents what we've come to expect from Golden.

I really hope Sal joins in to shed some light on this. I guess I was kinda under that impression, due to the color choices and price.

Color: I'll be honest I am not a big fan of the satin blade with the black hardware but assumed that it was a function over fashion decision. If Seki can run satin "treated" hardware and Ti clips on their salts surely Golden can. In my experience Golden uses a quality stainless steel for their hardware and liners. I will get very minimal hardware corrosion on my most carried satin blade which usually can just be rubbed off with a fingernail and I have yet to have that issue on any of my coated knives so generally consider it "corrosion resistant." Granted most of that carry is in very dry environment. Have you taken out any coated non-salts on the ocean? Rust on the hardware?

Price: Amazingly the N5 Salt is only $9 more than the N5LW DLC. My thought is this increase was due to the much lower volume of LC200N compared to S30V they are moving, possibly a Ti clip like ABX mentioned, and not in upgraded guts. The edge Seki has over Golden in regards to salt costs, is that their screws and most lock bars springs are interchangeable between 10 or so models, so the cost to "treat" is lower than Goldens 1 model.

My thoughts are in no way to contradict your conversations with the men themselves, and I am fully aware of your connection to the salt line (Still patiently waiting for the WaterWay :0) Just wanted to share my thoughts. I hope I am wrong in this matter though. Either way very excited for the release.

Ever since the Hawkbill Dragonfly Salt came out, my never summer has been a little neglected, but I still carry it sometimes. Makes a great steak knife. The DLC and logo have held up really well.

Thanks Bradley and Zrows. I am glad to see not all of these are stashed away in drawers and safes.
