Smallest spyderco folder
Smallest spyderco folder
I have four folders, Manix Cruwear, Pacific Salt, PM1 and a Tenacious.
I'm looking for a fifth and sixth. I have a Military in mind for the fifth and am looking for suggestions for the sixth.
I want the smallest possible with a pocket clip, must have a clip as I don't want to lose it.

There were some really small folders with clips like the Balance and Equilibrium, but they're discontinued. The new McBee - https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco- ... ock--82801 should be out any day, and I'm pretty sure it'll be the smallest Spyderco with a clip that's currently in production.

That's one ugly looking knife!ugaarguy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 4:11 amThere were some really small folders with clips like the Balance and Equilibrium, but they're discontinued. But it will go on the list of possibles.

The Cricket is pretty small as well.
I really like the SE version.

Re: Smallest spyderco folder
Even though it's not the smallest I would recommend a Dragonfly, it's small enough but acts like a much larger knife, and I'm a huge fan of the wire clip.
Re: Smallest spyderco folder
The Dragonfly is small and very light, maybe not the smallest, but it's easy to forget you have one in your pocket. A seller on eBay (belote) also has several of the discontinued Shempp Equilibrium at $92. The Dragonfly is larger but about an ounce lighter, it also has a longer cutting edge by a good margin, though the Equilibrium is thinner and has a four position clip.

Re: Smallest spyderco folder
What are you going to be using it for? If it's cutting threads and opening letters, then maybe the tiny knives work.
But any more than that, and I'd agree the DF2 is small and light and can do a lot more. The tiny knives are difficult to get a grip on, when that's needed. I have a Manbug and a Finch that I never use.
Hard to think of any tiny knives that come with clips, maybe they are meant to be keychain knives. Or maybe it's because a good clip would get in the way, it would be as big as the knife. But if you really want a tiny knife, think about whether it works as a keychain knife or with a lanyard or something rather than a clip and there are a lot more options.

The spin is really small too and has a clip.
You might be better off with a ladybug on your keys though.

I can't think of a small knife with a clip that's smaller than the Dragonfly that isn't also heavier. I feel like I'm overlooking one somewhere.

With occasional use when getting my Manix out in public is a no no.

The c176 clipitool with plain and serrated is very small and has a clip. I own one and use it quite frequently. It also has one of the thinnest serrated blades I have seen.

I'm thinking that if you could get your hands on one of the older MOUSE models that would probably be the best possible scenario. I would love to see a Sprint Run of the MOUSE with a Titanium handle and a blade made with one of the newer/better blade steels.
Or you could try to find one of the older TOAD models.

Not super tiny, but also in the smaller realm and very well built with a wire clip, is the Chaparral LW.

...and the Urban, slightly beefier than the Dragonfly, blade stock wise, but no lock (deeper choil though). As an added bonus the Urban can easily be upgraded with nicer scales, my BB/Elmax Urban is now truly gloat worthy with it's sexy Cuscadi "silk" CF scales :D

They may not be the smallest locking folders with pocket clips that Spyderco has ever made, but the Dragonfly, Cricket, Lil' Lum, Lil' Native, Chaparral, One-Eyed Jack, and Reinhold Rhino are all considerably smaller than the smallest of your current knives.
Or, you could just get over the fear of loss and go with a Ladybug. Clipped carry is no guarantee you won't lose a knife. I'm of the opinion it increase the risk, since clips can snag on things. Plenty of stories on this forum where someone lost one that way. OTOH, I've been carrying knives loose in my pockets for 65 years and have yet to lose one.

Re: Smallest spyderco folder
A lot of good suggestions so far!
A couple more good small options would be the Chicago and the Cat. The Cat was a favorite of mine for a while.

Definitely check out the Dragonfly.
