I am on a new binge now. I am in search of yellow Spydies. I already have a couple of AUS-8 Yellow handled Catchermans ( one 75/25 and one SE). I saw another one of them on Ebay here a while back. Other than that you don't see many of them.
Also the Yellow Handled Rescues seem to be few and far between. I gave my neice a yellow handled Ladybug ( which I later found was a little of a rarity). I tried to get it back from her but no luck.
Are these newer yellow handled Salts an attempt to resurrect the yellow Spydies of days gone by? Are the yellow Catchermans deemed collectible or just a novelty? And what other yellows might I ask that were in the line up at one time?????? :spyder:
I really wish manufacturers would consider a wider variety of handle colors on models other than the "cutesy" little ones. Black is not always appropriate or desirable (especially from a litigation standpoint), and they are a LOT easier to find if dropped into leaves, etc. if they are brightly colored. I, for one, would welcome brighter colors, and I think manufacturers might reach a larger market segment if they made the knives look less intimidating.
Just a thought...

Bright handles really add to the visual appeal of the collection, as well as making them easier to spot when you lay them down on the ground or the work bench.
When I was looking for the yellow catcherman, seemed they were never around, but now they show up from time to time. Things seem to go in circles.
JD,
I think that there was also a hotaru (sp) it has a light in it. I've only seen it a couple of times. The rescues were still available at Hamonoichiba.com I had picked up a couple to trade with a while back. Good luck in your search.
Chris
Boxer93 I am so glad you mentioned that Hotaru. I have that knife. I had to go deep into my footlocker to find it. It I am not mistaken I believe when I bought the knife it was also called the "Fire Fly". I am pretty sure I remember that to be the case. Also it is not a true-blue Spyderco. The box I have it in says "G-Sakai" which I guess is owned by Spyderco. This knife does have a light on it. On top of everything else the handle material seems quite a bit different than the FRN that the GReat Spyder Factory uses on their Yellow Classics. :) :spyder:
Yeah Rycen that's the one. The one right on the very top of your picture. You know though I am very glad I got it. Because since I got it I have not seen another one on Ebay since. Also it is a neat little "Glove Box" type knife.
Does anyone know what type of blade steel that G-Sakai used in the Fire Fly. I finally found it in my 1993 folder/catalog. G-Sakai seems to me like a really decent make of knife. I'll bet they are big in Japan. :spyder:
