Fixed hawkbill?
Fixed hawkbill?
Has Spyderco ever made a fixed hawkbill (H1 would be my guess if they did or will). I see people saying how they love to use spyderhawk's or hawkbills for landscaping work. But, has there ever been a fixed version?
Would anyone want that? And, how would you put that in a sheath?

YES! It would be this

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
Haha, I figured if anyone knew it would be you Peacent! Looks like a great design. Is there a decent sheath for it? I doubt demand is that high for another run of these, but they look great and I bet they are a powerful tool (especially when in SE).
Re: Fixed hawkbill?
We're still waiting for a spyderco fixed blade hawkbill. Closest thing is to make one with a whale rescue.

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
The now discontinued Reverse was it.

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
Yeah PEACENT that would be a really good one for Spyderco's first fixed blade Hawkbill>> And then they could roll out "Ceya's Hawk" ( see the Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill thread  ) We've been banging the drums for a fixed blade Hawkbill along with a new generation Hawkbill folder for some time now.ThePeacent wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 12:37 pmZMW wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 10:33 amHas Spyderco ever made a fixed hawkbill (H1 would be my guess if they did or will). And "ZMW" you're on the right track because as good as the Spyderhawk model is with landscaping, gardening along with lawn and schrub work a fixed blade Hawkbill would be a "Cadillac" way to go for sure  Also take note of what EVIL D said about Spyderedged Hawkbills because they do perform at their pinnacle in SE.
Too few people know how great of an outdoor tool a bigger sized Hawkbill can be on a wide range of lawn, landscaping and gardening chores>> and a fixed blade Hawkbill could truly take that cutting tool to a much better work performance level.

Yep, used my Spyderhawk today outside. Made quick work of trimming small twigs off larger branches i was stacking. Great knife. Might need to grab a backup while they are still available.

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
Sheathing a hawkbill is easy, if you think about the "removal of the knife" part.
I did a bunch of Civilian sheaths back in South safrica, in SOB positions with the blade in the open position.

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
Yeah I don't see where a sheath for a fixed blade Hawkbill would be any big problem at all. Actually I would think they would do well with a well designed sheath.
Now I know a bunch of you guys like leather sheaths but I will be up front and admit that I've had great luck with a lot of the nylon and cordura sheaths. Actually the "BLADE-TEK" sheath that came with my TEMPERANCE 1 models is still one of my favorites.
But I'm sure that Spyderco would not have much of any problem doing either type of sheath for a fixed blade Hawkbill. Really there are no roadblocks to prevent a fixed blade Hawkbill from becoming a big selling item.

If you can sheath this big thing then you can sheath a Spyderhawk lol.

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
I'd be fine with a Boltaron or Kydex sheath as long as it avoids rattling caused by the edge/spine hitting the inside of it, or a sheath that dulls it when unsheathing like the Aqua does.
I think that the part of the handle closest to the blade (just behind the ricasso) should be bulky, thick or big enough to lock in place of a properly fitted and shaped sheath  , perfect example being the Rock Salt IMO

and also big or bulky enough to provide a good guard or finger stop :o even though a Hawkbill is mainly used in a pulling motion, not a pushing one :spyder:

Re: Fixed hawkbill?
All in for a Fixed blade Hawkbill in H1 SE. Would be a fantastic yardwork tool. Used my Spyderhawk again yesterday doing uard work. Made quick work of a variety of tasks. A big fixed blade would be great since yard work is one of the few situations I could actually carry a big fixed blade.

Still loving and using my H1 SE Spyderhawk and still wishing for a fixed blade full tang version for added robustness and leverage.
