Info about Spyderco Wayne Goddard Jr. #C18PS

#1

Post by elqfaltaba »

Greetings to all, I write this post for two reasons, first, to celebrate and share with you the joy that I have gotten another of the folding knives manufactured by Sptyderco that I had been looking for for years, at last there was luck and I was able to get hold of it, it is about a Spyderco Wayne Goddard # C18PS, completely new, in perfect condition.

Second reason for this post, I searched the forum for information on this wonderful piece, I have not found too much, I visited Spydiewiki and other similar pages, but I can not see the original box with which it was sold, my item comes in the wrong box , at least the label corresponding to the C16PS, I would like to know what the original box is like, if it corresponds to this model or it is the white model, also to know what the identification label is, was it accompanied by some paper with information as usual in do you act Spyderco?

Finally, collector's curiosities and any anecdote or story about this piece will be welcome.

I show some pictures of the knife and I thank you in advance for any information or photography that you can contribute.

impressive collection of Goddards, all fantastic, especially the C18, one in white micarta and another in black micarta with the flat edge, wonderful both.

Here in Spain it is difficult and expensive to get these historical models of Spyderco, but with patience and will some are getting.

I hope that information about the box and if it accompanies some kind of information brochure.

Thank you very much Larry_Mott.

Wish I could help but, with the exception of the much later white Sprint, I don't have the original boxes for any of my Goddard Jr's. Given that it was introduced in '92 and disappeared from price lists in '99, it would have crossed the plain black box and plain white box eras and possibly entered the white "tray" type box with blue or black web and logos era. There's also the possibility that some or all of them came in zippered pouches rather than boxes since that was the case with some of Spyderco's other early collaboration models.

Here is my Goddard;

Cant help you re box and paperwork.
Im not a collctor and could not care less about boxes for my knives (they are just clutter IMO) - if it did come in a box, I might have thrown it and the paperwork out.
Not sure though - might be stashed in a cupboard somewhere.

Thanks The_Deacon, all information is welcome.

Sonorum, I also think that goddard have some fantastic lines.

Great that Goddard SpyderScout, the edge is impressive, I usually save the boxes and other items that accompany the knives, I collect them and I like to know their history, I also use them daily. I bought it from a private individual, he thought that this is the original box and he has no other, so I am interested in knowing how this folding knife was originally served.

Thank you all.

FWIW, my one Baby Goddard came in a plain black box. Since the Goddard Jr. was introduced before the Baby Goddard, that would probably have been the box the earliest of them used, assuming they were boxed and not sold in pouches. But, assuming they came in boxes, without knowing the date of manufacture there's no real way of knowing whether it originally had a plain black or plain white flap ended box or printed white tray box.

Actually i think my black Jr came in a pouch.. I have "sinned" and used pouches for knives when bringing them to friends so i have lost control a little of what knives really came in the pouch
My Baby Goddard came in solid black box anyway.

I hear you Larry. My PE and PS Goddard Jrs were purchased on eBay, and my fully serrated one from someone on this forum. I know none of them arrived in boxes, or I'd still have them. Do have a bunch of pouches but, unfortunately, a lot of them were unmarked and I never kept track of what came in them.

Hi Elqfaltaba,

As Deacon mentioned, they probably came in a plain box. We were working with two trading companies (blue boxes & red boxes) and we also worked direct (black boxes). They were all made by the same maker, but I don't remember the box color.

Nice Larry! I guess I need to keep watch for a Baby Goddard & Goddard Jr now!

Edit: Well...after checking prices on the auction site maybe not! :D

Hi Elqfaltaba,

I lied. I just found a new C18 in the box and the box is the white box with black lettering and bug.

Here's what I have - pics of Edge-U-Cation (generic, not specific to the Goddard), the box and label, the knife itself:

As I look at my own photo - not sure why my box says C18PS, when it is a plain edge and should say C18P? Quirky.

Aren't a small number of Goddard Jr. in plain edge only avalable by Mrs. Goddard and not over the usual distribution channels? Maybe that is the reason why we don't see old boxes marked with PE.

^^That, or at some point in time the box got swapped with one for a white handled Jr that (to my knowledge) only came in PS

SpyderScout, The Deacon, Larry_Mott, sal, Sharp Guy, foofie, Peter1960, thank you all for having solved my doubt with your answers, a pleasure to have your help. I am also glad that there are so many admirers of these precious Goddards.

Now I will try to locate one of those white boxes with black letters to complete the set.

Hugs and greetings.
