My Manix has become a MAGNET?

#1

Post by Jon_USA »

Seems I somehow magnatized my Manix I don't know how this happened but it picks up several nails and paper clips like crazy it lightly sticks to metal surfaces.

My question is how the **** did this happen? My Manix is a magnet.

I did not touch the blade to anything just carry and general cutting chores i.e. cardboard, plastics, a rug, and some copper wire for Stero equipment.

I took it from my pocket yesterday and placed it on my work bench where it picked up a penny nail.

This is WAY stange as it seems to not be going away

Any help on getting it de-magnatized????

HELP!

Stereo speakers have STRONG natural magnets inside, so placing your knife in the vicinity of such a magnet can magnetice it. magnetising is just the iron particles forming in a magnetic patern, due to the magnetic flux (flow)that went thru the knife. If u work within powerlines with strong currents it can also magnetice a knife. This is a natural thing to occur. Even our body's are sometimes magnetised with strong magnets during NMR medical examinations. Every molecule that is magnetised will demagnetise after a certain period. In a body, or liquids this can be very quick. The NMR calculates the period necessary for all the different tissue's to return to their original state and makes this visible on a screen. Metal has the capability to stay magnetized for quit a while. The Natural earth magnets can stay magnetised for centuries. But don't worry your steel particles are already loosing their magnetic capability right as we speak, they will SLOWLY get back into their original state. So they will loose their magnetic capabilities after a while.

Maybe its just lonely..... :D

Many people buy magnets which they wear on their wrists for arthritis and even in their shoes to promote general wellbeing. Maybe a shoe holster can be developed. Might be really hard getting on a plane with that one.

Or you might check this out to demagnetize your Manix

I noticed the same thing with my kershaw leek. Maybe it has something to do with the change in crystal structure martensitic steels undergo while cooling. Or maybe it's witchcraft. Either way, I too like senate's suggestion.

If the magnetizing problem is severe I guess you could take your knife to a mechanical (tool makers) shop that does surface grinding on a machine with a magnetic table...

I think they should have a demagnetizer, I know the shop my father works in have at least one...

here is a link on the subject. http://www.svalander.se/pdf/NOTES.pdf

Thanks Senate, first good laugh I've had today. I think I'll take a "stab" at my fridge with my Delica. Lol.
