sorry for the potato pics. initial thoughts:
pros: it's a chaparral. :)
cons: the frn texturing is pretty aggressive and I would have preferred a frn backspacer. so calling this knife a lightweight chaparral is accurate but not dramatically so.
The chap is the perfect in-between knife between the df2 and the delica4 just wish this version had less aggressive frn and weighed less. I guess I am being irrational on weight but it does feel noticeably heavier in hand than my df2

Don't be sad! The CF version still holds the throne of pocket perfection IMO. I'm liking the FRN, but only because it's different. If I could only have one Chaparral it would still be the CF version by a considerable margin.

Whats going on with the DF blade in that pic?

Gorgeous pic, gorgeous Chaparral. I'd be slightly disappointed on the weight as well, granted my desires are somewhat unrealistic, loving the 1.6 oz weight of my Gen 2 Delica.

Yep! What he said ^
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
I think this new Chaparral FRN is a winner. You get the same robust Chaparral as all others except for the scales but for just $80.97. The next closest Chapparal in price is the CF/G-10 Laminate for $124.95 or $44 more!

It should feel considerably heavier, the DF2 is listed at 1.2oz

just don't see the need for a steel backspacer on an frn backlock knife. anyone know of one currently in production?
When we think of FRN, we don't necessarily think of very light weight. We think of lowering cost due to less labor. when we think of "make it light weight", we think linerless, or extra skeletonizing (if strength is needed) cavities (like the Salt 2 or Moran). We call them "light weights" in general conversation becuase most are more familiar with "Lite wt" as FRN, than FRN, if that makes sense?

Thanks for the descriptions. It was kind of what I was asking about in another thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=76407
