Yeah, second the Mini Paring K09BK. Might not be the excuse you wanted to get another cool blade, but hey.. :)

well, for your big American Pumpkins no doubt the Spyderhawk is the tool to use, but for our small Violina variety pumpkins we have in Spain the appropriate one is it's smaller brother :DJD Spydo wrote:Not a bad choice but I'm more than sure my Spyder Brothers PEACENT and the honorable Dr. Hannibal Lecter M.D. both would agree with me that the H-1 Spyderhawk would be most appropriate for any type of Halloween preparation. Spyderedged of course!!dreadpirate wrote:Dragonfly 2 Salt Hawbill Serrated Edge?
Oh I can see the desire for the thin blade>> so if you've got to have a thin blade then I was say that the CATCHERMAN would do quite well.
I wonder what my old object of lust "Elvira" :D would recommend for Halloween festivities??

Re: Best Spyderco to Carve a Pumpkin?
My wife does some really nice pumpkin carvings. She uses a pattern and marker to create the image. She used to hand cut with an X-acto knife and small fine toothed hand saw, using a boning knife to cut the top off. After teaching her to use a jigsaw, this and a drill to start holes has become her primary tool. Quick, clean, and makes some great designs. Some cutting is still done by hand depending upon how intricate the design. She has started to use some "fake" pumpkins available in craft shops so they can be used again. Depending upon the thickness of the pumpkin I would agree the K-09 would be the best Spydie for the job. These things are scalpels.

I used my Hap 40 Delica last year. I'll most likely attempt to use the Hawkfly this year.

I am thinking Spyderco Tasman Salt 2
Re: Best Spyderco to Carve a Pumpkin?
No SURF :D The CATCHERMAN is the absolute perfect Spyder for pumpkin carving :D And as big of a fan as you are for LC200N blade steel models this could be the perfect hunting, fishing, outdoor and even kitchen folder.Surfingringo wrote:I would want something with a thin and narrow blade. Maybe a Centofante?
With the narrow, streamlined blade and as sharp as I get all of my CAtcherman models I don't even see a close second. Oh sure there are models that can do it all right but the only other model I would want to use if I had my way would be the C-60 Ayoob in SE.
But it's all in good fun and this is getting to be a most interesting thread for sure :)

A fillet knife works very good and then use a smaller sturdier knife for some tasks. Of course, with glow in the dark paint (dries clear) you do not have to cut up the pumpkin. However, then you do not get the smell.

Honestly this is one place where a knife is not the correct tool. I use a piece of 1/4" bandsaw blade with a warncliff point.
