A question for Spyderco,

I have an outdoor profiler (702MF) and pocket stone (305). The pocket stone is medium grit, but it feels coarser than my medium profiler stone. Is it coarser, or does it just need a little breaking in?

Hi Formula. A little of both. The medium grit material is an opened cell alumina ceramic material. The little rectangular pocket stone is pressed in a die-set. The ProFiles are extruded. So the surface is a little different due to the different molds.

OTOH, the material has a sort of "crust" or surface glaze. This will eventually wear off and the underlying material is considerably coarser. However, once the "crust" is broken through (worn in), some wear can be expected.
