Where do you sell old knives?

#1

Post by attila »

I've heard the secondary market mentioned many times, but, like the darkweb, I don't know how to get there.

So, when it comes time to make room for new acquisitions, where does one go to sell their knives?

I apologize for my ignorance and appreciate the help.

Bladeforums Exchange. You have to buy a membership in order to sell though - it's around $30 if I remember correctly. There's also a sub-Reddit called Knife Swap, or something like that, which is pretty popular. BF Exchange rules though...

BladeForums, and several other knife forums, have "Buy-Sell-Trade" sections, but eBay is the largest venue for secondary market sales and purchases. You'll also find knives being listed for sale on Craigslist and Armslist, at least occasionally.

ebay is not too bad. But it depends on the type of knife you want to sell and buy there. Military's and PM's - too many fakes so the price reflects that risk. research and watch their pricing before you sell/buy on ebay. But, I have found a few steals...

Who sells knives?

The few that I have sold have gone on Ebay and I have done no reserve auctions and so far I have done quite well. I have bought quite a few on BF.

My thanks to all respondents!

I'm just thinking about the future, for a time when I might want to send unused examples to homes that'll provide more affection than I do.
I dislike the thought of my plain-Jane delica ending up in a junk drawer (with a pos SOG and Boker Plus that I never carry) since it already sits untouched for weeks or months at a time. To make things worse for the the poor little blade, a pakkawood Delica is on the way with a Caly 3 and Para 3 expected in the near future.
The other example is that I thought of selling my modified Breeden Rescue a few times because it's not as enjoyable or functional in my usage as my HAP40 Endura or Manix 2.

My selling would also be small-time, so I'm not sure which is the best option to unload just a few blades. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I don't social media, so that apparently limits my options a bit.

Thanks again!

reddit.com/r/knife_swap

doesn't require a paid membership like bladeforums, better interface, less drama etc.
