Yeah, I have been watching them for a couple of weeks. I have almost an acre of lawn around the house and they never seem to even leave the yard. They both forage for the young but it seems as though one of them stays where they can always see the nest. If one is on the opposite side of the house the other is always on the side with the nest. They are very busy birds, foraging from the crack of dawn till twilight. It has been fun watching them.

I wish my chickens could forage half as well as these robins, I wouldn't have to feed them as much. The robins seem to find a worm every five minute or so. They are pros.

Last year I had a finch nest on the house and watched them a lot. I actually saw 2 of the 4 baby finches take their first flight and my wife saw one of the others do the same. I spent a lot of time staking them out by the back door waiting for it and it was totally worth it to see a bird fly for the first time from two feet away.

That's so cool! :)

When we lived in Western Australia we had a pair of swallows that used to nest and rear their little ones on our front porch every year for the three years we lived there.

We used to get tiger snakes in the yard too. They weren't so cool and sometimes I used to shoot them if I couldn't shoo them away! :o

Do your swallows build mud nests? I have a barn swallow nest over my garage and one on my clothesline/grape vine trellis. Their nests are cool and they chase bugs in the air like fighter pilots. Too many of them and they can be pests but I just have a couple.

Yes they do! They must be the same in your part of the world. We only had the one nest and they were never a problem. :)

Im not sure if OP is truthfull or just a troll, but it funny to see fanboys raging and "spitting".

However, if OP is a troll he is quite a mediocre one. Need more practice.

I don't know if this is about trolls, moles or jelly rolls.

It's more to do with attitude and sincerity, don't you think?

We have a lot of purple martins where I live. I've read that they eat their weight in mosquitoes every day. If that's true then that's a lot of mosquitoes. For aerial acrobatics we have scissortail flycatchers. They live all over the Southern Plains in the US. If you haven't seen one in flight it's worthwhile to check them out. They are crazy fast and as their name suggests, their tail moves like pair of scissors.

You should spend more time watching birds. I hear that it helps with anxiety and anger issues.

There has certainly been an increase in counterfeit Spydies from China, and people thinking those are genuine might explain a perceived drop in quality.
^^ THIS ^^

I think Tom nailed it, or at least a large part of the reason we're seeing more of these types of claims on the internet about poor quality control: counterfeits being sold to people who don't know any better.

One of the downsides of the competitive pricing nature of internet commerce is that it has killed off almost all but big-box brick and mortar retailers in most places and also hurt reputable online dealers who can't compete with perceived "deals" on Aliexpress, ebay, and sadly, sometimes even Amazon.

That said.....More baby bird photos, please!! :D

I think many people just see that counterfeiting is, on the front side, stealing potential sales and while that is certainly true the bigger issue is that, on the backside, it is eroding brand identity. Companies who build their reputation and brand identity on quality are the ones who face the biggest risk here. It is not just Spyderco either. I will pick two other Colorado companies as examples. Kong, the maker of dog toys, and Otterbox, the maker of phone cases, both are companies who build their reputations and brand identity on quality and they are both companies who are being counterfeited like crazy. The perceived quality is severely damaged by cheap knockoffs in all these cases and many more. This is not that same as knockoff sports jerseys or fake shoes and handbags. It is all bad but it effects different brands differently.

I am not saying the OP has fakes. There is no way to know that unless he posts picks of these knives that are falling apart. I am just pointing out that fakes are in fact eroding Spydercos reputation along with the reputation of many other companies.

Here's a real-life Angry Bird that took a swipe at me because I walked too close to its nesting area.

Well said.

Also, somehow, I had no idea Kong was a Colorado company...their products are not exactly expensive to begin with, so that's pretty sad that people aren't even willing to pay their prices.

Crow, like most corvids, are super smart. That angry bird new what he was doing!

Here is a Ted Talks where he talks about how crows thrive because of people and how he thinks we can train them to pick up trash for us. Kind of cool.

https://youtu.be/bXQAgzfwuNQ

I have a large mob of bluejays around my house and they are corvids too. They are fascinating as well. They will sound alarms when hawks and eagles are overhead and my chickens have learned to run when they hear it. A mob of them will even chase a hawk away. They will also make the predator warning sound when they want to steal another birds food because most animals react to their distress call. That is pretty clever for a bird.

Kong is actually based in Golden, about 2-3 miles away from Spyderco.

Thanks for the link, Darby. I love that kind of stuff.

There is also a pretty good documentary on Netflix called "Beak & Brain" which shows some amazing puzzle solving and tool making behaviors of various birds. Pretty incredible how smart they are.

I've had bluejays follow me on hikes before. They seem to be pretty curious critters, which is typically a good general sign of intelligence I'd imagine.

I hereby deem this thread to be about Robins (the byrd, not the bird). Unfortunately, I've not a Robin, so someone else post pictures.
