About half of the slacks I have for work have a small interior pocket in the right front pocket that fits my pocket carry knives.

The only problems with pocket carry for me are when wearing sweatpants, scrubs, or athletic shorts.

Well I am glad you posted this thread. I will admit, and I hope none of you consider me a "Heretic" on this: I rarely use the pocket clip on my Spyderco knives, though at times I temporarily have done so, and my main reason is exactly what has been mentioned: Fear that for some reason or another (not fear of lack of strength of of the Clip) the knife will slip out of the clipped pocket and I lose it. I have carried the Pacific Salt, Endura, and Delica clipped to the inside of a breast/shirt pocket, and it felt good to be there, very secure, though I know in some places if someone were to see the clip there they would recognize it as a knife.

Thank you all for responses. We're all different & good to learn from each other.

John,

What kind of pants you're wearing? Your activities?

I'm curious as I'm an office drone, rarely take my knives out. Failing to undo my Cara Cara clip screws, I drop it in the pocket. More bulk with the clip on, but manageable. Carrying this way I haven't lost any knife.

One more aspect: I put a lanyard or fob to assist in pulling it out. If clipped, this might be unnecessary.

I love my knives with pocket clips. One problem I have found with the clips is when you have it clipped in your pocket and you brush past a counter or your own car and the clip makes contact with whatever you are walking past the clip could mar the paint or surface of whatever is you come in contact with. I have a nice blemish on the front fender of my truck because I was in a hurry and brushed the paint as I hurried by my truck to answer a phone.
