Where's the Caly Jr. sprint? Would you still buy one?

I would buy at least two. I was very late to the game and am fortunate to have a caly 3 and 3.5, they are by far my favorite spydercos. I would love to have a caly jr!

The black plain edge was my very first Spyderco. :D
(Random anecdote: Memory is weird. For the longest time, I was sure the gray one was my first, but I looked it up on Spydiewiki recently & the gray wasn't made 'til 2004. I bought mine in 1999-2000, so it had to be the black one despite what I think I remember.)

I can kinda see how maybe the Caly Jr niche has been filled by the Caly 3 and UKPK. Side by side, they're almost exactly the same size and shape. Native and Para 3 (and probably others that I can't think of right now) also fit into the "3" blade with choil and back lock" category. I'd hate to see the market over saturated with too many models with similar features to the extent that there's more supply than there is demand. That said, Caly Jr and Caly 3 are slimmer in hand than Native and Para 3, Caly 3 doesn't have a lightweight option, UKPK has the lightweight FRN going for it but it doesn't have a lock, so for the uber particular, Caly Jr would fill a niche, of sorts.
My preference would be for fishyscale Caly Jr for nostalgia, but I'd be just as satisfied with a lightweight Caly 3 in a steel other than VG-10 (for variety).

Since the Caly 3.5 is the undisputed EDC G10 champ (in the Twinboysdad EDC Carry Federation), I would rather see that bad boy get done than anything else that starts with Caly. But that's just me, I could be wrong...

What made the caly jr nice was the absence of jimping. I think everything is overjimped these days. I vote for sprints of unjimped current models.

Have a zdp version for a number of years, would love another.
Only changes I'd make would be tip up wire clip, and maybe volcano grip.

I might like a tip up wife clip, but I would keep the iconic fish scale frn.
My Zip version is a safe queen.

I think the light weight and snap of the original is part of it's allure.

-I'm jealous of that burgandy Caly Jr, AlwaysTomboy, :p, thanks for the pic!
-Interesting thought about jimpless sprints of newer models Cheddarnut. I don't know how it would fly with the average user, but the lack of jimping is one of the things I enjoy about the Caly Jr. I actually like jimping for the most part, but it's a nice change of pace when I grab something like a Jr. or my Kiwi 4 that doesn't have any.
-I just got my HAP40 Manbug today and now that I've seen the color in person I do like it. Burnt orange still probably wouldn't be my first choice for a sprint, but I would definitely buy it. Top of the list for me would be a darker blue or green for frn.
-Another idea that I've seen mentioned a lot in the past is a Salt Caly Jr. When you think about it, it is kind of wrong that there's a Salt line and a fishscale pattern frn, but they've never been brought together? I demand answers! :D
