Figured someone here would appreciate this. Would have jumped right on it had it been a full sized Calypso :)

I can't wait for that rumored (by Sal) Micarta Caly Jr sprint.

The one that might never happen. =\

Micarta can be difficult because every hole you drill shrinks instantly so everything has to be compensated which can mean making custom bits and tools. For example, I have a few specially-made carbide counter-bores for drilling holes in micarta for corby bolts. They're each made .002" over so that the hole comes out the correct size. If I drill a .189" hole in micarta a .187" corby or pin will fit tightly with no gap whatsoever. But, those darn bits are $75 each! That said, micarta is a GREAT knife handle material.

I believe what you all are missing is that they have a hard time with UNLINED Micarta warping.

The answer to that is just to put steel liners on the model.

I've been so close to snatching up a micarta Caly Jr on eBay so many times but I know I'd never want to use it for fear of damaging or losing it and, for now at least, I'd rather spend my money on knives I'll use.

I'd be all in for a new version, though. Micarta Caly Jr with steel liners? Rock on! [insert 'shut up and take my money' meme here] :p
