Allright ... I guess I could believe that somebody at Spyderco chopped up a Delica during their spare time one late snowy evening in Golden. That still doesn't make that knife a prototype, an officially sanctioned design or anything close to collectible.
A fake .... ? Well maybe not .... But worth $75...? Certainly not. If it is worth $75, I'm gonna get busy with my dremel right now. I've got a couple of spare Delicas hanging around. Hmmmm, I wonder what a "waved" Jester might be worth .... :D
I think you did him a favor by sending him this thread.

1) Joyce says it ain't so.
2) I have actually held one of these. The problem is that when the top of the blade is cut off, the integrity of the remaining blade is damaged. There simply is not enough steel between the bottom of the spydie hole and the beginning of the grind to keep the blade strong enough to not break. (see the photo)
This may very well have been tried in Golden, but it would have never made it out of the Spyderco factory for safety/durability reasons, not to mention patent rights.................. its a fraud.

[quote="Yeti Man"]Thanks to all who posted on this thread. As a result of your sticking your noses in where they did not belong, I am now being dinged by Ebay for a non paying bidder beef. I followed your advice and found out that you guys don't know the first thing about what you are talking about. The seller gave me a name and telephone number of a former sales guy from Spyderco, who he got this knife from, and he told me the whole story about where it came from and the name of the person who made it. His story checks out, your does not. So once more thanks to all you Spyderco know it all's who live here.
Your reaction is completely unwarranted! The members here saw that you were about to be fleeced and tried to give you a heads up! Joyce has told us that this knife was never made by Spyderco! So who do you believe, a current Spyderco employee, or some alleged former salesman? Why do you imagine that you were the only person to bid on this knife out of thousands of collectors?
It is a shame that you have reacted in this way. This forum is used by some very knowledgeable collectors]all[/U] Spyderco knives use this link:
http://www.ted.tweakdsl.nl/spyderco/spyderco.html
eBay will not support a non paying bidder claim when the vendor has misrepresented the item he is selling! Good luck with your future purchases.

Hi Guys,
Another morning chuckle. :)
To reconfirm, the knife did not come from Spyderco's R&D department. It was not generated here as a prototype or tester or even a "fun science project".
It is entirely possible that a former employee (or anyone for that matter)modified it on his/her own and is representing it to potential buyers under that premise.

Yeti Man,
I am sorry you feel you were given incorrect information and that resulted in trouble with eBay.
The eBay listing says "the knife was received at the 2004 SHOT Show from a Spyderco R&D guy during the show." I can without question confirm that Sal and Eric were the only R&D guys from Spyderco attending the 2004 Show. Neither has seen the knife in question.
In your post you say "The seller gave me the name a telephone number of a former sales guy from Spyderco, who he got this knife from, and he told me the whole story about where it came from and the name of the person who made it." Any of us here at Spyderco would be happy to confirm (anytime) the authenticity of a knife in question. Our forum community is also incredibly educated with our products and their history. Feel free to ask us here before bidding we're happy to help.

YOU SUCK !!
Welcome to the Forum.
Not exactly the best way to introduce yourself but you should be able to understand the confusion and skepticism considering the nature of man in general and the anonymity that E-Bay and the Web in general provides. There have been other home “waved” Spydercos executed by some of the folks here and at BFC skilled in the fine arts of Dremel-kan.
Folks here have been proved wrong on other Spydies being passed as a load of (insert choice of waste product here) but have been proved right on far more. Your R&D prototype raised eyebrows and a Spyderco representative has weighed in after checking with R&D. Understandably the people here would be prone to believe that your offering is questionable.
After reviewing more threads over at BFC, I tend to believe that withholding judgment on the Spyder-in-question (and the people here - who for the most part do not inhale briskly nor forcefully) is the best course of action. Having seen and discussed prototypes and upcoming products with Sal at the recent Spirit of Steel there was no mention of a waved Spyderco. Sal did mention user suggested mods incorporated into current production models for limited "AFI" (aficianado) knives and indeed had a beautiful AFI Endura for show. Maybe a Wave type opener could be in the offering
Read Sal's comments in this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... 829&page=2 and you will all see that there is some ongoing discussion with EKC for this in the future. Given recent events with another well-known knife manufacturer Sal is and always has been acutely aware of copyright and patent infringement. If your source is genuine, then selling this item as a authentic Spyderco could possibly complicate the discussion.
I personally will wait for Sal to weigh in but in the mean time I will not slam you or any of the members on either the Spyderco or Blade forums. Good luck on your sale. Stick around. Contribute what you can and you can learn a lot here. We are a bunch of diehard Spyderco fans and our loyalty shows it but we are also good caring people here and very knowledgable in knives and Spydercos in particular people. Welcome once again.

Hiya Joyce,
Guess I cross posted with your recent post. I didn't catch on the 04 SHOT comment. Must be the Olds-theimerz kickin' in this morning. Hoping to see the AFI Endura soon. Great response on Yeti Man's concern. You guys are helpful as always. Hope it gets squared away. I'm also showing your post at 2:27 PM and mine at 2:37 PM when I know its only 9:37 AM (God's and Texas Time Zone) here. Are y'all on Zulu (GMT) time on the new forum? (Which is just super BTW).
I got your e-mail and will get back now that I'm between classes. Take care

Hi java,
Check your profile. You're probably still set for GMT. I went a few days before I checked out all the options and changed mine. I show that post you mention as 10:37. Which would correspond with EST.

Hi Yeti man. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.
I'm sorry that your experience was uncomfortable and frustrating. If you were duped by your supplier, again, I'm sorry for your frustration. That does not make us responsible.
Verification of a model can usually be found here.
Regarding prototypes, I am the only one here that is authorized to build or give away prototypes. We do not give away prototypes. I have personally given away a couple to special people for special reasons. Your knife wasn't one of them. We have had employees take and sell prototypes, but it was un-authorized (stolen).
We did build a "tsunami" waved Endura yesterday. We built it to break it so we could provide information to some folks on another forum (SDF) that seem to regularly make this modification. Our concern was the strength loss on the blade from this modification. We did break it and posted the results on their forum.
It is certainly possible that an employee of Spyderco could make the mods and even sell the model, but that would not make it an official Spyderco prototype. If it was a Spyderco prototype, then I would have authorized it to be so, which would mean that Spyderco was considering making the model.
Spyderco would not consider making a model that removed Spyderco's trademarked round hole, which the "tsunami" waved version does.
I hope you get it sorted out, and you are certainly welcome to visit anytime to verify models. We may suck, but we try to honest with our customers.

Katdaddt251,
Chuckling ... I kinda figured that the "you suck" note was from the seller.
Welcome to the Forum man. You'll like it here. You made a noble entry into the collector world by trying to buy ..... what just might have been ... something special. Hey ...., I gave it a look too.
1 negative feedback won't kill your ebay account, so just stay with your collecting efforts! :)

Me Too
Katdaddy or whoever you are,
I bid on the knife in question and if you did also, I hope you have better luck than I have. By the admission of "Sal" in the above post, this guy could be telling the truth and got the knife just as he said. If he did not know that he was being lied to and presented the knife for sale that way, he is not a fraud, just uninformed.
I feel bad for both the seller and the potential buyers in this case. The seller did indeed show me written proof that he got the knife where he said he did (a copy of a invoice from the company he works for showing the knife was a dealer sample and was to be released to him) and he also gave me the name and address of the former employee of Spyderco and advised me to either look him up in the phone book or send him a letter asking for his side of the story. I did find the mans telephone number and after speaking with him feel that the seller was telling the truth as to where this knife came from.
I will go ahead and take the hit from Ebay as I did back out on my bid, and while I don't want the knife seeing as it has so much bad karma with it, I still feel that all parties involved here would have been better off if the members of this forum kept their noses out of other peoples business. This whole episode has soured me on EBay, Spyderco's and the people who seem to live their life for them.

I think everyone was genuinely trying to help you be informed. I mean its too bad the seller was duped. That sucks, but why should you be duped as well?
I think the knife was being misrepresented. I think it should just of been pulled. I mean its not the sellers fault either if he was convincingly lied to...but its still incorrect information.
Dude did someone send you nasty e-mails or something? Whats with that shot at us ^^^ Everyone here is going to seem really into Spyderco because its a spyderco board. LOL What did you expect?Yeti Man wrote:

Feeling better!
Hello All!
Great start to the day! I just want to say that I feel a great deal better about this situation now that I know that it was the vendor accusing us of "poking our noses in". Well, he would be upset I suppose!
As the eBay records show, there was only one bid on this item, so the truth is being used very economically, again! Joyce and Sal, thank you for your input here.
Regards Ken

Yeti why don't you shut the **** up. You are a very ignorant person. Hey guess what I just glude a hook on my Native. Think you can pawn it off as a offical Spyderco prototype. I'll give you my phone number and act like a one time employee of Spyderco if it helps. You are stupid and the reason Ebay sucks.

ONLY ONE BIDDER.....kATDADDY251
Hello all.....Yes I was the only bidder.....This YETI person is confused in his own lies.....trying to CYA hisself I guess. Thanks again to all for the warning. For the record Yeti was the ebay seller and I "katdaddy251" was the auction winner and only bidder.....So Yeti likes to play games I guess.....I started to get confussed after reading all this myself.....LOL.....Again thanks to Joyce and Mr. Sal....and all of you......and also I thought I would copy and paste the polite and professional e-mail I recieved from the seller "yeti" or "mel-the-moose" or MC..... what ever dude wants to be called. The e-mails go from most recent down to the first when I sent him one stating I had to cancle my bid. Rember this below is the latest one from him to me....Katdaddy and alex same person....yeti,mc,mark,mel-moose is the seller...I will attempt to edit the bad language and hope people can understand this................................................................................................................................................Alex
Yep, your a geek. A weasely little twitching nose, long wiskered, foul breathed, smelly little rat. And a geek. You bid on it, you let the auction finish and then you want to back out because some bunch of twats from this fourm say not to trust me or this knife.
Well, I have spoken to Sal Glesser from Spyderco and when I reminded him of the fact that he sat in my employers booth at this years SHOT Ahow and handled this knife he remembered the conversation and did indeed back up my claim. Maybe he has a bad memory, or maybe the fact that the distributor I work for sells a major percent of Spyderco's inventory. Either way, I know I have a rightous piece here, you dont want it, and I am supposed to take this up the *** with a smile on my face because you have a bad sense of whats right and wrong?.
Get a life Alex you sad pathetic little boy. Next time before you bid on somethinf ask your Mommy for permission. But for the love of God stop fxxking with people because one day you may get it back ten fold what you give out.

Sorry you feel this way but yes you have misrepresented your self and the product. Ebay can credit you for the seller charges. It's not a big deal to have it done but the truth is this knife is not what you say it is. Spyderco R&D dept. was contacted and stated NO THEY DIDNT MAKE THAT KNIFE. And I can get it in writing from them and will be glad to send a copy to ebay and you if need be. Plus I have been flooded with over 20 e-mails telling me the same thing from people who dont even know me... they are just knife geeks like myself. It is even become a topic of duscission on spydercos web site in the fourm section ....look and see. So if you must leave negitive feedback go-head...we both can and then we can e-mail ebay back and forth like kids.... I hope and wish you would not but whatever........Katdaddy251
