In my young old age I automatically thought...troll. First post and he is bad mouthing :spyder: Then my opinion realized the thought I had had just two weeks ago. Give it a chance. Give the person the benefit of the doubt. In this world of internet everything(including fridges) this person might have felt he would get a quicker answer from :spyder: online. So I am going to wait on this one. Hey it is possible, I have never heard of a quality lockback popping out...but anything is possible. Too frequently I see forums people shouting troll and scaring sometimes a legitimate question away and possibly a long time customer if their first experience is made worse by forumites. I have seen this behaviour here once. I must admit I was one of those angry people that did not get the whole story. I have changed...for the better. Sorry for the rant and long philosophical theory. I say give the fellow a chance. Never heard of a Spydie doing that before. Hope you are well Daywalker. Take Care and Stay Safe :)

That's no Merlin! It's a rare G-10 Harpy!
Poor guy. It would've been nice if }{ could've repaired it and charged him for time and labor instead of telling him to bury it in the family plot (if I remember what I read correctly).

 By all means that knife had has done his work. I feel sorry for the guy, but this is clearly a very VERY well used work knife. The serrations are almost worn off, and i don't own a knife that has such deep scratches on the blade. shrug! If u put enough pressure on any mechanical device it will snap or break. I don't think u can say that this is normal wear, i don't know what the guy uses it for, but i think Spyderco was not wrong to tell him to put this knife to a rest. U have to realise that if Spyderco had repaired the lock there where still other areas where the force needed to pop out the lock could have made structural damage. This could have resulted in injury and a lawsuit against Spyderco.
Lately I haven't had great things to say about how W and R is doing things but after seeing what kind of knives they get back I will say that I understand why they will not tell you anything before they look it over.
That knife looks to be just plain old worn out and abused on top of that.

Police
Chad
I have a SS SE Police that I used almost every day for years. It was one of thew first Spydies I got. I must admit that I abused it on more than one occasion! It was used to open tins! Sorry! Cut through heavy duty wire, cut tent pegs, walking sticks.
It was used to cut sea fishing bait, dropped into salt water and sand. On the odd occasion, I admit to having used it as a thrower!
Even so, it is in better shape than the knife here! I cleaned, sharpened and oiled it after each use. If it were to fall apart the next time I used it, which it won't, I would not expect a replacement. I have had my monies worth!
Regards Ken

Aloha my friend UK KEN!!!
I know what ya mean. When I first arrived here on the Big Island, I had to open the barge crate we used to ship our stuff over. It had a sheet metal "lock strap" on the door of the "crate". Anyway, I had my Delica CE...the PE portion slipped, but when I was able to get that SE portion in there, off it came! NO DAMAGE to the blade...I was impressed, and it was from that day, that CE won me over.
Also, I have put my 1st Gen. Dragonfly to the same "abuse" you have, (even throwing! :D ) and it looks NOTHING like that Harpy. The only thing messed up on it is the serrations. I used a diamond rod on it without an inkling about how to resharpen SE!!! LOL!
Man, that poor bird...
God bless ya buddy!

jaids, that's one way of looking at it, here' another... The Delica in that picture is the work of a British master engraver named Marcus Hunt. I commissioned it and he engraved it to my specifications. Part of those specifications were that the clip mounting holes were to be filled and the knife engraved on both sides. Mr. Hunt complied with these requests but let me know that he found them odd. I honestly believe his primary concern was that, by eliminating the clip, I was reducing the utility of the knife. Frankly, I think he would be very pleased to see it being put to work. Granted, some fancy apples or pears might have provided a "classier" backdrop, but I was in the mood for onion soup.
The true beauty of this knife lies in the fact that, in normal use, it is virtually indestructible. The engraving, unlike most that you see on Spydercos, is not a soft metal overlay, but is cut directly into the stainless steel of the handles.
loki, I find plain edges more to my liking than serrated. Truth is I only "discovered" Spyderco relatively recently, was drawn to them by the "round hole", which makes opening so much easier with my somewhat arthritic hands. I know that Sal is rightfully proud of the "spyder edge" and pocket clip, but this "old dog" still prefers plain edges and loose pocket carry. I find the plain edge easier to sharpen and have a real hard time peeling fruit or sharpening a pencil with a serrated blade.
