Hmmm... I was thinking the opposite. Seems kind of pricey to me. The current Police 3 is $55 less. Seems like the Japanese models are getting more expensive.

Vg10 though..... price hike on the police 4 ismore than fair in my opinion.

It's the other Japanese models like the ATR that I think are pricey for what your getting. Same materials as a PM2 but but $60 more expensive

Ah... you're right. I was looking at the Police 3 sales price. Makes sense it would be a bit more.

It also has taken a nice patina that is mostly grey now. It didn't patina as readily as Super Blue, but it did develop fairly quickly. Because of the really super edge retention, I am looking forward to it in the Police 4 platform.
I'm curious how you K390 compares to Hap40 or Superblue?
In terms of edge retention, Super Blue gets very sharp, but does loose it kind of quickly. HAP40 gets equally sharp and retains longer. But in terms of retention, K390 seems to be of a different breed.

Corrosion resistance: Super Blue < K390 < HAP40. I think Super Blue and K390 are fairly similar. HAP40 pretty corrosion resistant.

Out of the 3, I prefer HAP40 and K390.

Excellent! HAP40 is my favorite followed by Super Blue. Sounds like I'm going to like K390!

The more I look at and think about this one, the more certain I become that I'll buy it. Don't see a need to preorder though. The redesign looks like a homerun to me.

Last estimate from Sal was April or May, due to problems with procuring enough K390.

I'm sorta relieved, I must confess.

Entering 2016, I told myself I wasn't going to get any more Spydies for a while. Leaving 2016, I ended up with a CF M4 PM2, a Jade M4 PM2, a SpyderHawk, a Sage5, and a SpydieChef. So much for self-control...

Anyway, I can use a breather from my wife's harassment, even as anticipation for the Police4 mounts.

Hi Marc,

My wife, Gail. is never without a small bouquet of flowers in a vase. When they begin to wither, I get some more. variety, pretty, and it shows her that I think she's important in my life. Been doing that for more than 40 years.

I'm waiting to the Police4 as well.

When we began making the "Mariner" (which later became the "Rescue") in 1982, the law enforcement community asked for a knife that had the cutting power of the serrated Mariner, but had a point. I liked the idea and wanted one for my self so I designed the original Police model (PIG). I thought to call it "LaSalle", but thought that was far to much ego, and since it was for the Cops, we called it the Police and put "Pride, Integrity & Guts on the blade. It was and has been a common EDC for me for many years. The Police 3 was to be another upgrade, but I wasn't as happy with it. So with the Police4, I told myself not to dwell on the "original pattern, but to make something more for me. So I did.

Looking forward to having one of these in hand. The EM Pingo has piqued my interest in K390.

Sal, I must say, even though the Police 4 deviates from the traditional pattern it is still obviously one of your designs.

The curves of the handle remind me of a Calypso.

Sounds pretty decent.

Sal I gotta say man I'm truly envious that you can just think up a design and make it how you want it, and then chances are pretty good it'll end up being a good seller too.

I can't think of a better endorsement than that!

Thanks for taking the time to offer this historical perspective. One of my enjoyments as a relative newcomer here is learning how the Signature knives I tend to prefer are actually improvements you and Eric have made to your original designs. I take comfort in the past being prologue...

I have had it for two days. I have used it some, fondled it a lot and snapped quite a few pics. I have company coming in soon and will be a bit busy this weekend but I am working on a quick write up and will try to get it up soon. These are not available yet but if I got one then I can only assume that they will be available very soon.

I am trying my best not to post a bunch of pics right now and am trying to save them for a new thread. Hang in there. I am also having a hard time being critical of this one. I just like everything about it so far. :) I want to carry it for a few days and give some honest impressions.

Here is another teaser. ;)
