Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
I need some feedback from those who carry and use one on a regular basis in different environments.I had one but it was stolen from me and I didn't get the chance to use it.I know it's a gem but I decided to buy only good users not just collector pieces from now on.

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
I find that the blade finish shows scratches pretty easily. I kinda like that though, gives the knife character. It's a great user, the contoured handle feels great in hand, it's very unobtrusive in the pocket and relatively discreet, XHP steel is hard to beat. It has a more upswept tip than I usually prefer, but overall it's a very useful blade and pretty much the perfect edc size.
I honestly prefer the PM2 and Manix 2 for edc, but the Slysz is till an awesome choice.

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
I do not own one but I have handled them extensively so I'll still offer my two cents. I am an old hand at your new philosophy Elena86. I won't buy anything but users, no matter how much I might like them. The Bowie is indeed a beautiful piece. I also really like the handle and the way it rides slim in the pocket. The issue for me is the upsweep in the tip. It is not as extreme as the K2 but it is still a bit more belly at the tip than I want on a user. It makes it awkward to use the tip which kind of kills it as a user for my chores.
Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
It's both my favorite knife and my favorite carry. It's not small, it's not big. It's a slicer, but still kinda stout. The finish on both the blade and handle hides scratches amazingly well in my experience. I love the deep carry clip and the matte finish just disappears against most of my clothes. I also wish that it didn't have such an upswept tip, but I learned how to use it and even take advantage of that for EDC tasks as well as out in the woods. Bowie is the name, and part of what makes the knife so great IMHO :)

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
The upswept tip on the Slysz Bowie has had me sitting on the fence for a purchase. I keep looking at it then feel the Spydie Chef may suit my needs better at a lower price point.

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
One of the best users and one of my most carried knives. The blade shape has a bit more belly than I'd prefer, but it isn't much of an issue in use. Ideally it would have a blade close to the GB2, but I still like it very much.

It was my only decent knife for a surprisingly long time, and never failed me once.

^hi nick!
From my handling of the Slysz bowie, the ergos were good but not spectacular for my larger hands.
I did love the finish on the blade...

In your video you call this knife a "GEM" and I agree 150%! It's one of my favorite EDC knives.NickShabazz wrote:It was my only decent knife for a surprisingly long time, and never failed me once.

I'll add that XHP is one of the most ideal EDC user steels IMHO. It takes and holds an incredible edge, and touches up as easily as VG10. I just reprofiled both an S35vn and XHP blade last night back to back to 18dps... There are certainly a lot of factors other than the steel in doing so, but the XHP sharpening job was easier, and in my experience it holds an edge just as well.

Agreed there. I used to dislike XHP because it wasn't top-of-the-rock in edge holding, but with sharpening as easy (and edges as keen), I have trouble finding meaningful fault.abbazaba wrote:I'll add that XHP is one of the most ideal EDC user steels IMHO. (That said, if you ever wanted to Sprint the Slysz in M390, I wouldn't necessarily object...)

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
Other than the blade having a bit too much belly for my taste, I think there a number of things that make the Slysz Bowie a good user.
The construction is sturdy, solid and above all...precise.
The tumbled finish on the handle hides marks and scratches best of all the Ti. finishes.
The pivot is not just slippery smooth, but it is also a washer pivot (not bearings) which is easy to rinse with water and blow clean if you get dirt or food or blood or anything else in it. Bearing pivots are much more difficult to clean without disassembling the knife...especially if you get dirt grit in them.
The thin, contoured handle is a dream to carry all day, every day, in the pocket.
It fits well in small, medium and medium/large hands...maybe not large/XL hands though.
The clip is deep carry, making it very discreet.
The profile and the clip allow it to be worn in all types of pants (or shorts) including dress slacks.
The CTS XHP is a perfect steel for EDC use. It's easy to sharpen, get razor sharp, holds an edge and it's stainless.
The overall size is very "medium" and works for most tasks.
IMO if you're willing to work with a big belly on a blade, everything else about this knife is as close to a perfect user as I have experienced.

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
No... it is not a good user.
It is a GREAT user -- one of the best.
IMHO, the blade may have more belly than some prefer, but it strikes the perfect balance of 'thin slicing ability yet still rugged.'

Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
Greetings!
This is my first post on the forum and I'd like to join with the other Slysz Bowie users who have sung the knife's praises. It is possibly the favourite of my collection and I carry it carefully (UK laws permitting) most days. I whole-heartedly agree with Xplorer's exposition, it has so many good points. It's the perfect size for my hands, having excellent balance, a slightly longer scale to blade ratio and great tactility on the scales. I find the aesthetics hugely appealing too. It's action is just as smooth as other more expensive knives I've handled. I did experience some mild lock-stick on the first few flicked openings but that's now a thing of the past.
I've uploaded a shot of the Slysz Bowie and a size comparison with one or two other titanium folders with which most people will be familiar. It's not too big and it's not too small. That doesn't necessarily make it just right for everyone but it does for me. Finally, and I'm sure I'm not alone, I only have one, thanks to Nick Shabazz who has relentlessly and rightly extolled the Slysz Bowie on his channel. I wonder how big the sales spike is on the model?
Cheers,
Jimmy

Growing on this knife as well......I have the prybar.....excuse me....Techno also and like what Marcin Slysz makes. The only thing I don't like is the small halfmoon shaped dent in the handle to unlock the liner. The corners are a bit sharp to me. I also did not like that on the Southard but that is another story........
Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
Compared to my Sebenzas, that half moon indentation makes it a lot easier and more comfortable to unlock the knife. The Techno does this better than the Bowie. Like you, I'm a great admirer of Marcin Slysz's work.toomzz wrote:Growing on this knife as well......I have the prybar.....excuse me....Techno also and like what Marcin Slysz makes. Re: Is Slysz Bowie a good user ?
I want one of these knives. I've wanted one since I bought my Techno. I want Spyderco to make more Slysz designs. I don't personally know if it's a good user, but it looks like it should be with the blade shape, ergonomics, and overall size. And I'd love to confirm that myself.
