Re: Cat
Well, you know a $200 knife just has to be far better than a $45 knife, right?
My Cat came better finished than my Chaparral. The only thing the Chaparral has over the Cat is better steel, but that is a relative thing. The 440C is pretty good stuff.

I have read nearly all I could find about cts-bd1 and I never truly feel like I understand where this steel stands.... I have read people comping it to 8cr13mov saying that it's a low end steel, I hear people say it's a downgrade from 440c, and then I see the rare comments of it being an overall better steel than 440c. I even read somewhere it's like vg10 and not much different. I definitely don't agree with the latter... could someone give me a clear understanding with how Bd1 compares to 440c, 8cr13mov, vg10? I'm just lost here. I don't want to have the wrong information when I'm telling peo pl e about the steel

Here you go. http://www.zknives.com/knives/steels/st ... hrn=1&gm=0
I am no steel expert but it looks very similar to 440C, but with vanadium.

Re: Cat
I thought it was an American analogue to AUS8 and 8CR13MOV. I also make the assumption that Spyderco prefers BD1 to 8CR (ignoring AUS8 as that one is Japanese and this knife is from Taiwan) because they probably prefer Carpenter and their processes. It also may have been that they bought a batch of BD1 and XHP to send as a whole to Taiwan.JasonC6612 wrote:dplafoll wrote:The Cat comes in BD1 now, so it's even better.Doc Dan wrote:Well, you know a $200 knife just has to be far better than a $45 knife, right?
