Difference in PM2 blade length
Has anybody else noticed that the blade length on S110V PM2 and the BHQ M4 PM2 is different? The S110V is 2-3 mm shorter than on the BHQ M4 version.
Re: Difference in PM2 blade length
less than 0.5mm for all three of my PM2s; S110V, M4 and S35VN
it's a small sample, but from my viewpoint there is almost no variation.

Re: Difference in PM2 blade length
I just lined up 5 Para2s and there is maybe 1mm of difference between them. That said, the S110V is the short one of the bunch.

Re: Difference in PM2 blade length
Interesting. I only have the S110V and M4 versions of the Paramilitary2, but I measured from the bottom of the spyderhole (where it intersects the grind line) to the tip of the blade, and the S110V was at least 2 mm shorter compared to the M4 version. I actually compared and measured because I could tell there was a noticeable difference when using one vs. the other.

Clearly there is a discussion somewhere on this forum I missed.awa54 wrote:This is a travesty! Poor Captnvegtble has been deprived or proper balance and most importantly blade to handle ratio!!Bloke wrote:Has anyone informed Mikael Andersson?

I'm not complaining or ranting. Both PM2's are excellent build and quality. I'm only asking if others have noticed the difference. I'm used to consistent Spyderco manufacturing and found the difference surprising.
Re: Difference in PM2 blade length
I have a PM2 S30V and PM2 S110V - blade length exactly the same on each.

My apology, yes there are several threads you have probably missed... not that they're worth reading, unless you find humor in trolling a semi-troll.captnvegtble wrote:Clearly there is a discussion somewhere on this forum I missed.awa54 wrote:This is a travesty! At any rate, one such thread was about how the PM2 might ascend to perfection if only it had a 1.9mm longer blade. I guess we might be more helpful if we gave a hard measurement for blade length, instead of anecdotal "my knives are all the same" comments, I'll try to do that tomorrow morning, so that at least you know which knife is out of spec.

Re: Difference in PM2 blade length
On my PM2 S110V, the blade, measured from tip to extreme end of G10 scale with a Mitutoyo vernier reads 3.462". :)

Blades can vary that much just due to the skill of the person sharpening them.

Without a doubt! The Deacon wrote:Blades can vary that much just due to the skill of the person sharpening them.
If a blade blank measured 3.000". After the final edge is ground, whether by man or machine the blade must shorten (from the tip) even if only .0002". It will be shorter!
How much shorter would depend solely as The Deacon states, on the person finishing the blade and how he felt at the time, the time of day it was and many other uncontrollable variables.

Re: Difference in PM2 blade length
Alright so when the sub routine compounds the interest is uses all these extra decimal places that just get rounded off. So we simplified the whole thing, we rounded them all down, drop the remainder into an account we opened. It's very complicated. It's uh it's aggregate, so I'm talking about fractions of a mm here. And over time they add up to a lot. It's pretty ingenious. A bunch of hackers tried it in the 70s, but they got caught. Oh, and they did it in Superman 3.
