Help me pick a new yard knife.

A tough Saturday morning knife to tackle anything from limbs, roots, bags of lime, fertilizer, etc. Something that don't mind getting dirty and may not get cleaned up right away. FRN sounds good but I'm open to any suggestions, strong tip also. What's your grunt Spyderco that you'll use anywhere for anything?

Hi benben, although I don't have one YET I think I would consider a Pac Salt Serrated for a yard knife. From what the guys/gals here on the forum say you can really put it through the paces. Spyderco serrations (this I do own) are nice and rip right through most.
The blade is rust proof so you can just wash it down and let er dry. The tip is a bit rounded on the Pac salt and I assume much stronger than a acute tip, but if you like SurfGringo did a nice mod on the tip making it "pointy" if you search this forum. Take care

Thanks Chinook3. I was actually thinking along those lines, was just on National's site and was looking at the fully serrated Delica and the Salt 1. I think VG10 would be corrosion resistance enough on the Delica. So maybe jump to the larger Pacific Salt?

I say go for it! The Pac Salt handle is comparable to the Endura if that helps. I like a bigger knife so Endura/Pac Salt is my flavor.
Take a picture of it in the wild if you can please :)

Last week at I was at my son's high school baseball field and the weeds were growing 2 feet high along the fence from one dugout to the other. I didn't have my key to the tool shed but I had my FS Endura and it made quick work of the tumble weeds, tall grass, tomato plant??, and everything else growing there. If I had not brought a fully serrated blade, or if my blade had been shorter the job would have been a whole lot tougher. Also, since it's a knife I could replace at a reasonable price I've never felt concerned about using it hard. That said...I rinsed it, blew out the water and added a drop of oil and it's as good as it was the day I got it, back in 1991. After standing the test of time I've put this Endura through this knife is very high on my list of favorites. Of course the Pacific Salt has the same characteristics and would to be just as good or better depending on your preferences.

My pick for the kind of work you described is the Manix 2. I have beaten both my saber grind S30V and my FFG S110V versions up on several occasions, with no sign that they were at all stressed by hard use.

The grip on the Manix is also quite a bit more "locked in" than the PacSalt, at least for my hand.

Your wishlist reads like a custom request for a SE Pacific Salt or possibly the SE Tasman Salt. Enjoy! The salt knives are awesome workhorses.

My vote is the Aqua Salt in SE! When I needed to de-forest my back "yard" it was my go to. I like fixed blades for easy in and out with gloves, and the sheath on the AS is perfect. It's like having a mini pocket chainsaw, and it's great that it's become available once again. (not my pic but a good size comparison)

I've been using a PE Tasman Salt in the yard for a few months now and it's perfect. Replaced a sandvik mora. It's easy to sharpen out dings from dirt, etc. and pierces and cuts with less effort than the mora.
