Well I hope you like it. :) As well as sending a few out, I pushed for the model to be the Urban having briefly used one in the past and was the one that wanted Elmax.

It did indeed! But I didn't mind the waiting. The uncertainty of whether or not I was going to end up with one was the stressful part ;)

Luckily it all worked out and now I've got a special part of Spyderco and British Blade forums history in my pocket!

Those are real nice looking LC, what was the sticker price on these little guys. I've yet to pick up any :spyder: slip joints, the EdgeMattters Pingo will be my first. How strong is the back spring on the BB Urban, that's my only real concern with these slippies, other than that I think they look awesome and don't mind carrying one, as a matter of fact I carry one of my Northwoods often and never worry about the blade closing on my fingers.
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.

I'm proud to say that I've owned one version or another of pretty much every slipit Spyderco has made. So I feel like I have a good handle on the various lock strengths. The BB Urban I've received has a really solid lockup when opened. I don't think I'd say it's the strongest but it's pretty close. However, the halfway stop when closing is absolutely the strongest I've come across, almost too strong.

How the heck did I miss this when the thread started??

Managed to score one through circuitous means today, I'm really looking forward to this knife, Elmax is a great steel and I've been holding off on getting a leaf bladed Urban for far too long!

Can't wait for it to arrive!!

It would be nice if Spyderco would offer a solid G10 linerless version with Elmax steel that us normal people can afford. Forest Green gets my nod.

After the success of the HH G10 UKPK, this sounds like a winner! We need some new Elmax knives.

Wow! This one is really raised from the dead! Hahaha!

I would love to have one of those Elmax Urban LW's. If I found one for sale at a good price I'd buy it.

Well, I am glad for the reminder. I may have to look into getting one of these. The guy at BB really angered a lot of members when he refused to sell the knife to people overseas. I think he ended up getting stuck with a bunch of these and they ended up going to retailers because of it. I no longer participate on that forum because of that. We were treated pretty badly.

Unfortunately that forum has gone on to the big server in the sky. It was in its time the best knife forum in the UK. It was a great loss to the knife scene over here when it imploded. A bit like the UK knife community's version of the fire at the library of Alexandria. It wasn't perfect, but it was a great thing.

I can understand frustrations at the hassle to acquire the BB Urban if not UK based; it is imho the best Urban released to date, and highly desirable. Great design and ergo's, super steel, beautiful colourway, tasteful BB branding... Spyderco really hit the brief square on the nose with that knife.

I do have some sympathy with Stew (the forumite who handled the distribution) as I think it's overseas popularity hadn't been anticipated (it was after all a knife commissioned for sale to members of a UK forum). Shipping overseas adds a whole new level of shin kicking to the situation. Lest we forget there are many commercial US knife sellers that either won't ship overseas, or only do so at extortionate cost to the buyer due to the aforementioned hassle if things go awry. So hardly surprising really that an informal volunteer wasn't as magnanimous as we'd all have liked. I know I'd not have done as good a job getting knives to folks (but then I'd struggle to organize a booze-up in a brewery).

But yeah, I'm always grateful to Sal and BB for organizing the BB Urban. It rekindled my affection for Spyderco, and has been a faithful edc companion. Unlike most of the US, we Brits are very limited in what we can carry without specific reason. The BB Urban (and the Urban LW in general )is an ACME of UK carry. I don't know if there was a bunch that went begging for a while, but I know that now you'll be lucky to find one on offer. I can't wait to get my mitts on the coyote brown/AEB-L version later this year.

Maybe if the AEB-L Urban goes well Spyderco can do an Elmax sprint so everyone has a chance to get one. Maybe foliage green FRN scales. Since they seem to be using BU steels for the Urbans I am hoping we will see a Sleipner sprint as well. Maybe burgundy FRN and DLC coated??

Sorry SC16 but I get a kick out of how many different sprints and exclusives you ask for. Just keep on bringin' 'em! You're bound to get something you called out at some point. :D

If I keep throwing them at the wall something will stick! :D I like to think the 4V we saw last year had something to do with my shilling of 3V/4V!
