Great Blade Show

#1

Post by J Smith »

Ok,got back a while ago.

I was able to pick up a

Little Temp in S30V

#ed black blade Military

PE VG 10 Pro Grip

plus a Busse and Strider shirt, guess I may have to get a Strider now that I have one of their shirts.

Now for the Spydie....

DiAlex proto was there and it was one of the best looking and best feeling Spydies I have ever handled, really hope it is produced. It looks somewhat like a MT Vector only smaller without the reverse tanto. It was my favorite proto.

The Manix is a drop point Chinook,it is in production and should be out this year.It is a must have.

The C13 stretch, updated Progrip.SS scales with kraton inserts on both sides and about a 3 1/2 in flat grind blade.Another must have.

Those are the 3 I was must impressed with.

Now we move on to the...I forget the name but it is a comcept model with a dragonfly type blade uder 2 in and is being made into an assited opener.

The SS ATR is much lighter than I thought it would be,I could not really tell much wieght differance between it and the Ti model.

All I can say about the Spyderfly is that Eric is something with it,Sal ain't to bad either.Got to get one to play with.

The Kopa is comeing and Santa Fe says that a Dino bone version will be out just after they start shipping.Hope they are out by Xmas so I now what to tell Santa.

The Bison IIRC is the name of the big new folder, not really for me but many will love it.It is huge!

UK Pen knife, love it.I will be finding someone in the UK to get one for me.

Daywalkers design was not ready for the show, same because I was really looking forward to seeing it.

I now many more designs are slipping my mind.

I got to shake hands with many fine people of the knife world,to seak of only a couple,Sal,Eric,Bram Frank,Ed Schempp, and Jerry Busse.

And a pic.
I also took some at Blade but they are on film.Sorry to say that I did not get one of Joyce. She said if I did she would take the camera, pry it open with the Chinook and cut up the film with the Spyderfly.
I did get a couple of the booth and I think Kelly was in them.

Congratulations, Jeff.

Sounds like you had as much fun in Atlanta as I had in Oregon!

Good finds, too.

Aloha JSmith!

Glad you had a safe trip to and Fro'...Ya got some great new toys there too! Are them Spyderbugs lil' pins?

Right on, I am VERY happy for Dialex...he had it coming for quite some time already! Was it his Gentlebug?

That lil' assisted opener sounds very interesting too.

Glad ya had a great time and Alex...
Right on bro!

God bless,
Chad

God will put you over...if you let Him! John 14: 13,14...try it, it WORKS!

I wasn't the gentle bug.It was mean looking and about the size of a Delica.
The little Spyders are the ones they inlay into the scales.I talked someone out of a few that were in the display case.

It was great to finally met Joyce in person (thanks again for the VIP passes). Sorry , I missed Sal and Eric though I did get to finally shake hands with Jeff, Bram, and met Ed (the guy who designed the Persian). If you all have not gone and can go in the future...its a definite thing to do at least once in your lifetime if you like knives. Laterz!

Hi Jeff, thanks for the review. And many thanks to you all for your appreciation. I'm so very glad my proto was there and that it seems to appeal. Note though that I only conceived the basic lines and the fine tuning was made by Spyderco, so much of the credit goes to them.
Daywalker, your time will come too, bro

Just wanted to say that I too enjoyed the Blade show and THANKS AGAIN for the passes.

I don't think Jeff mentioned them, but there were also protos of:

A lightweight Lil' Temp. Wire clip, polymer handle (zytel or frn?)

I also saw a Szabofly at the booth. I didn't notice it there at my first visit, but as I was leaving the show I saw someone holding it.

Like Jeff said, that Bison is HUGE.

I never got a good look at the POLYWOG thing. Joyce tried to explain it to me - something about removable handles. Anyone got more info on that?

I was bummed at not seeing Daywalker's prototype. Maybe it will make it to Blade West.

I walked away with a Hideaway knife that just happened to fit me perfectly, a Shivworks Disciple, and I got to play with a bunch of other cool knives. I also got to spend the day with my dad.

What did you think about DiAlexs design?
We really need to get up a following on that one and get it made.

Oh,what hideaway did you get.I saw some small neck knives that were hand forged damascus made by (can't remember his name)he does all the edge grinding on the Knights Armament knives. He was only asking 45.00 each for them,70.00 for the larger ones.I was out of cash when I saw them.

Wow look like you had great times at the blade show.

J Smith you said that someone was selling damascus HideAway for 45-70$. **** if this is true I'm getting screwed buying a S30V Curvy for 150$. I'm buying mine on the official web site and I've been waiting since Mars.

howdy,

I got a Front Site Hideway. It's a straight edge and it's of the older style (doesn't have a hole in the blade to click into the kydex holster). It's S30V and came with the bikini and large kydex holster.

If I had ordered one, it would probably not be exactly like this, BUT I got it new for $99. I couldn't pass it up since it fits me perfectly and I wasn't looking forward to waiting forever to get one from the website. Matt Cucchiara did the finishing on it and I bought it from him at his table.

He had two more and I saw at least 2 more at someone else's table.

I'll post a pic later, but here's a link to the Hideaway site.

These weren't really a hideaway but a small neck knife with a kydex sheath but at that price for hand forged damascus.

Sal, Eric and Joyce, thank you for a GREAT Blade show. Spyderco's leadership in the cutlery industry is very impressive. Please keep up the innovation!!!
My two sons and I had the time of our lives!
